I've been playing Sierra's Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom, as well as Pharaoh and Zeus. They are basically similar except that Emperor is set in China, Pharaoh in Egypt, and Zeus in Greece. In these games, you can build a city starting from a village and then on through the different ages, with advances in technology and culture as you go on. In the mission mode, there are set goals which you have to accomplish, such as attaining a certain number of population, or building certain monuments, etc. In the open play mode, you can build your city as you wish and try to trade, parley with or conquer other kingdoms.
I've found out that only a select few would admit to playing this game. It takes time (I can accomplish about 2 or 3 missions a night) but at the same time it is an exercise in administrative skills.
Who else plays Emperor here?

I've already finished Warcraft-The Frozen Throne, and I like to play World of Warcraft since it's similar to Guild Wars.
