Of course. You must be watching lifestules of the rich and famous. Not everything here in the U.S. on tv is all about rich glamor.

I watch the news channels available to me. They are the BBC and the CNN. You cant get the true picture by watching life style channels. If you to try watching these channels only for sometime, you will understand my question. Thanks for replying.

Yes, they do, but, they're not going to show you that in the shiny magazine pictures. There are beggars and homeless people here in Canada also. It's a real sin to me that there are homeless people in countries as rich in everything as Canada and the US. So, yes, there is poverty and desperation everywhere.

The media always show beggars and slums when they report on India. But more than three quarters of Indians are living in poverty. Now even Indian media has forgotten about these people. I guess no one wants them to present near them. It is sad.

You know what? its because USA movies and our televisions shows, are from the USA. MOre exposure on their country because of Hollywoood movies. I believe there are beggars and homeless people as well just like in our country, India and Philippines. I think we even are better off than people who are living in the States because at least we can eat delicious food and have a comfortable house because it's more cheaper here compared to their own country. Many people there are also hungry. Everywhere there will always be rich and poor.

You are right in saying that the media has done a lot of selective reporting. The western media has done a wonderful job highlighting the rich and neglecting they poor in US and other countries while they focus on the poor and homeless in the developing countries. Thank you for your comment

There are homeless people all over the US and Canada too. I live in one of the richest countries in the world - but in one of the poorer neighbourhoods. There are street people all over the place.

Most of us living outside the US and Canada do not see poor or homeless people there when some news or report is shown. But we see lots when our country is focused by media. That was the motive behind the question.Regards

America most certainly have beggars and homeless people. I have personally been homeless four times inmy life. I have had to ask for help from other people to gat by on many occasions. I do not have that in my life now, because one thing that happenned to me was that I found a government program that allowed me to go to college. I have not been homeless or unemployed for over tweny years as a result.

I'm happy to hear your story. It is indeed inspiring... The good thing though, your government had programs to give back to the people the services they need. It's a sad story from where I come from.. many Filipinos only have to rely on themselves, and help from our families (and closest friends). They are our most reliable source of support.

I live in one of the most overall affluent counties in the states, and we have beggars, homeless people and everything else. We may not have as many as some areas in the states, but I doubt there are many places completely free of them. But this is something you see as you drive or walk around and there are not usually too many in a small area, so they are easier to ignore if you wanted to. Media that is broadcast even in the states does not emphasize this much at all, it is very local. My husband and I have a small boat in a marina, and there is one regular homeless person there who can be seen at all times of day and night. I haven't seem him beg, but I am not there every day.

I really hope the person has a job. Can a person having a job be homeless?I find it hard to imagine that if a person having a job is homeless what are the chances of a unemployed person.Regards

I haven't been homeless myself, although I did get a little too close for comfort once a long time ago. I have heard more than a few rags-to-riches stories that include a bit about living in their cars. I suppose that anything is possible if you want it bad enough. The man at the marina probably does not have a job, he seems to have mental issues that might have contributed to his homeless state. I have not been very close to him, but I have heard stories about him from others in the marina.

If he is the only there surely some one can help can't they? Are there free health clinics for his check up. If he has disease that can be cured he surely needs to be treated. If he has mental condition that can't be cured and he is not dangerous to any one then it is better letting him live there than locking him up for the rest of his life. Thank you very much for sharing your experience. Regards

Yes, we definately do. I don't know if it's a large problem as in other countries because I haven't been anywhere. There are various reasons for this, but it is a problem.

It is a big problem in a developing country like ours and it is far worse in many under developed countries. Thank yo very much for commenting. Regards

I am afraid to amitt that yes indeed America has beggars and lots homelessness. The ones that bother me the most to see is the children and babies that are homeless. You would think more steps would be taken to take care of the children and get them off the street. America has always had a problem with letting anyone know there are beggars and homless people. Being one of the riches nations that help other countries out. But refuse to open their own eyes and help their own people out. What a shame!!

Every country in the world tries to settle problems in other countries without getting rid of some of their worst problems. It's not like they don't have money but just the lack of will. That's my understanding. Thanks for commenting.Regards

there is nothing exceptional in America. but it may be true that in comparison to India or other asian or European country, the number of beggars or homeless person would be definately less because they have history of 100 years and to some extent, they have developed more.

Yes, I think that there are a lot of homeless people in America. I live in a very small town and we have at least 4 of them that I have seen on a daily basis on the streets since I was a small child. When I went to Miami last year, there were homeless people in tents all up and down the streets.

Its frightening to think even a developed country like America cannot provide food and shelter to all its people. My country is said to be one of the fastest growing economies in the world but majority of the people live below poverty line. Regards

Every city in the world has homeless people and beggars, but it's not something they're proud of so they get as little exposure as possible in countries like America, because governments don't like anyone to know the facts.

I agree. They hide it pretty well. Our country the only people we can hide is the people who have good jobs and homes. because there are very few compared to the vast number who are without jobs and homeless.Regards

It's true, the media would like us all to believe that America is so rich and powerful that they possibly couldn't have beggars, but there's a whole hidden side to America that's incredibly poor. That side is quickly growing, but the media will be damned to start showing that on TV. The same goes for any Western country, I find.

You are so right. when media shows a news article relating to a developing country they show and talk about the homeless and under previlaged. But when they have some feature on a developed country the only thing they show and talk about are the wealthy people. Regards

god yes we do.a lot of people in the town i live in are one check away from homeless. they take in multiple roommates just to pay the rent and that's all it covers-not water, power or anything. the taxes versus the wage don't line up. the media isn't showing the whole truth. just what they want you to see.
