What kind of relationship do you have w/ your dad? I'd say if you have a pretty good one, chances are high that dad will be able to understand reason, like someone else mentioned in response. If your relationship with him isn't so good, then maybe you should just avoid the situation all together. Time heals all wounds.

I think you need to explain to your dad that just because he is enemies with the this person doesn't mean that you are and that the son never did anything . I would tell him that you respect him but that you have to make decisions for yourself and would appreciate him supporting your on your descisions as we don't all have to like the same people in life .
