I am a 35 year old woman who has not worked out of the home in the last few years. I might have to start looking for a job because my hubby is going to be switching jobs . How should I answer the person doing the interview when they ask me about my not working for the last few years? Does it look bad to interviewers that I was a stay at home mom?

You have alot to offer as a stay at home mum.
Good organisational skills, can multi-task, keep a budget and keep the family finances in order.
You will have good negotiating skills, can communicate and express yourself confidently in many different situations.
You can work within a team and are eager to learn new things.
Mention equal oppotunities, how you respect and treat everyone equally.
If you know what field you want to work in, maybe research it first. This will impress the employer that you have an interest.
I wish you luck.

I'm also a sahm. I'm currently looking for a job to suppliment our current income. I tell potential employers that I chose to stay at home with my children, to be with them for as long as I could manage. I've yet to get a negative response to this. If someone did find that a negative, that's NOT someone I wish to work for anyway. Best of luck job hunting!

Confidence in yourself is the key to your moving forward. Do not belittle yourself. You are what you are and do not let others put you down. When you walk into an interview, what interviewers wants to see is confidence in a person. Your first impression towards them is vital. Dress well but overly dressed. Speak firmly, slowly and gently. Pray to God, of course.

haha, tell them you've been working as a researcher in the growth and development of children for the past few years. It's not a lie. I think there are a lot of employers who don't want to look at hiring us because we have been out of the workforce for whatever period of time. I will be re-entering the workforce come the middle of next month and I too am worried about what prospective employers will say about me being a stay at home mom for the past seven years.

Tell them you have been working online, you won't be lying you are making money on this website. Being at home for your children is not a crime, its shame so many moms have to go out to work, but in this day and age one wage rarely covers the neccessities of life.

I don't think it reflects badly on you for putting your family first. Many people do that.
I say be honest and if any skills you use as a SAHM apply to the job you are applying for; tell them!!
I wish you the best of luck in your job hunt!!

It shouldn't make a difference. I have just started working after being home with my daughter for the past 2 years. And honestly it has not effected my interviews. It does effect it as far as location, because I have moved, but besides that there really is no effect. Just play up your previous experience that you have, nothing is too small, use it all to your benefit. you have still use your multi-tasking abilities, communication skills etc. Things will work out, good luck.

In todays job market many employers don't seem to understand how much of a job it is to care for a family. In the mean time mylots is not such a bad way to earn and a few here have done well it seems. That part I'm still working on but the opportuntity is here.

Not at all and you should be proud to tell them that, being a mother is one of the hardest jobs there is and if they have a problem with the fact you have stayed at home to look after your children then there it was never going to work anyway, as they will certainly have a problem if you child gets sick and you need to take time off etc, look for a family friendly employee

hey if you really have skill, then don't worry. i know people who have started working after 30 years. you can very well tell the interviewers the truth. if you are really capable of doing the job they will definitely take you.

I think it really depends on the employer but most generally understand that you haven't been employed if you have been bringing up children. Don't dismiss those years though, use it to your advantage. There are a lot of things that full time mums do which are advantages in a lot of jobs, such as multitasking, advising, and many other tasks. Don't leave anything out. It won't be a disadvantage for any good employer.

I dont think it should be a problem that you were a stay at home mom because that is a job in itself. They should understand the situation and see where you are coming from and hire you without being biased.

first make a resume that will sell your abilities and your academic attainment. all the info that you inter in your resume is the way of the employer to get interested to you. It will help you to get an interview and the info that you inter in your resume is the most topic that the interviewer will ask you. Dont say you dont have a work for long time sometimes the interviewer will think that you are lazy and it will end you to be not hired in that job. Or if you have a friend who is running a business you can ask them for help in told them if it is ok to add them in your resume and you are thier employee for a long time.
I hope i can help you by this!
