Is that veterans get substandard care at the VA medical centers. They are treated my medical students and interns and wait long periods of time for medical care and most here in Ga travel hours to get the VA in atlanta. This is what irks me, is those on public assistance ie-medical assistance- get to the go the dr of their choosing and get better medical care than someone who served their country?
Why cant the veterans have a similiar system? My Hubby is a desert storm vet and to see the way they all get treated by staff and the long waits they endure makes me sad!

Well Lush_heidi, the active duty guys don't have it much better. My son's knee gave out last summer, it was over 3 monts before he got an MRI or cat scan on it. THe doctor then sent him for PT but he was doing the wrong exercises. After 6 months, he got to see a Civilian doctor, who gave him more exercises and told him come back in 3 months.
He was a lacrosse, hockey, soft ball, golf, racquetball, and most other sports.
Yet, he is still limping around now. He says he may get a medical discharge, but they are saying it was pre-existing.
He got through boot camp and his A-school and was at him permanent duty station for several months before the knee gave.
Somehow, I have a hard time going with pre-existing. It would have shown up long before.
Well he gets to see the doc now in March. And he told me, if he doesn't stay in 2 years, he does not get the GI Bill, I have a real hard time with that too.

My thoughts are with you and I would totally fight the pre existing excuse they give. Get copies of his medical records prior and his recruiting physical exam. Its not fair. I know how active duty can be, but if they send him to the VA it will be even worse. They were going to give my hubby an IV for kidney stone surgery and he waited 10 hrs for a nurse and for her start one!

It's the same way here in MS. I think that our veterans deserve better care than what the VA provides.

I saw this this morning and thought of you

I know it is just the beginning and it will tax and already over taxed system, but I guess someone is trying to recognize the contributions of our vets.

I'm a former veteran who has been in Iraq, and I understand what you feel. People on public assistance go to the top of the list instead of us vets is beacuse we are more likely not to vote for the democracts or hillary. They need to keep people in public assistance to keep voting for them so they can still get a pay check.

No liberal or democrat understand what we have been through. And to hear that our leaders in congress dont think we can win? Tell me when they were over thtre? What unit were they with, and what did they see?
I was over there, I dont see any media talking to me about what is going on there? You are going to hear a bias about whats being achivied there? If you doubt me or want to ask me questions, I would love to hear them?
