Global warming, excessive energy consumption

I do not believe that people are taking global warming seriously on a personal level. We all discuss the Kyoto protocol etc, but what are people doing on an individual level? We are the basis for global warming and excessive energy consumption, and cannot keep blaming mining companies etc without doing our bit to help. So turn off the lights, TV, DVD etc when you are not using them, and decrease your greenhouse gas contribution.

Very good point.I am saving environment and my bills. I have candles all over my house at night. If I am not reading I don't need much light. I do recycle if everything I can recycle. I use green products only.

It's reassuring to know that some others are taking care out there :)

I can't believe you aren't getting more responses on this, as global warming should be taken seriously by everyone out there.
There is so much we can do ourselves.
at our house we recycle everything we can. At times it takes us 2 months to fill a garbage bag. Actually this town is great for recycling. Whatever they don't pick up you can drop off at dozens of recycle stations all over town.
We have energy efficent bulbs and use candles as well.
We don't drive that much. In the summer we ride bikes everywhere. I grow some of my own veggies.
We are vegans. Did you know that meat factories produce more carbon dioxide than all cars put together.
Also we just don't buy as much stuff, and we try to buy stuff that's made closer to us. We only have TV for the kids as in we don't even get any stations and the kids only get one show on tape per day if that.
We are all responsible, we can't just expect big companies to to something about it, because unless they have to by law, they won't anyways.

Most of us are addressing this problem involving the environment in our own little way. So little, that the way factories are killing the environment are still untouched. We have been hoping that governments worldwide will adopt the environment friendly suggestions of some environmentalists. But, looking at the advancement in terms of the use of solar power, windmills, and the like, it's very discouraging. It appears that the influential and oil-producing countries are doing what they can to slow down its getting harnessed.

It is high time that we consider seriously alternative sources of energy. Solar power needs only to be tappled for free. Besides, there's wind power and geothermal sources, too. All these are just around us, all in existence which none of us can put to a halt, in fact. Now therefore, aside from all those little things that we do, let us start finding ways to tap these alternative energy sources for our home requirements.
