After reading a zillion and one posts here on mylot about which free email provider was the best ... I was curious ...
How long have you had your main/primary email address that you use at the moment? Have you had it for years or are you someone who hops from one provider to another leaving a trail of dead, unused and neglicted email accounts behind you ... never to be used again?? If the latter refers to you - why do you leave them behind??

I've only ever had one primary account. It's with the 2 guys in the fish store! Ok, an inside joke. When my ISP first started they were located in an old house that had been converted to apartments and then businesses. One side of the house was a fish store (has now moved) and the other side was where modempool got it's start. Their still in the same building but have taken over the entire ground floor and have grown tremendously. I love the small town feature - I can stop in and ask questions or pay my bill and actually talk to a person. Their also great about answering other computer questions.
Been with them nearly 8 years now.
I also have a yahoo address that I've had just about as long and still use to this day.

*laughs* i love the fish reference!! Talking to any ISP in person is such a big bonus these days as most don't even offer that anymore. I used to work for a part of one of the biggest telecommunications companies in Australia and their ISP section was a joke!!

I have this primary account since year 2000, and right now it is still activly in use, as this is my primary email address and all my friends will keep contact with me by using this email address, and if one day I don't use it anymore, then i would probably lose 80% of my friends

I have used my bellsouth email address for--oh about three years since I switched to them for my internet. I have used hotmail for my long-term email for at least five or six years but am switching slowly to gmail for all my email needs because of mail storage space and file sizes combined with online convenience. I used to switch email addresses a lot but got bored with it. Now I just have my main ones though I keep my older ones alive just in case an old friend happens to email me and doesn't have a newer addy. the reason I would switch so often is because I would get offered an email account and would pick out an addy I liked, but the addy would be trendy and I would get bored with it. Just dumb reasons, I guess.

I use hotmail, and I've always used hotmail. I've had the same address since I first started using the internet, so about a good 10 years. I've started other email accounts here and there over the years, but hotmail has always been my favorite by far. The ones that i leave behind are usually ones that I just started because some site wanted an email address to get into it or something, so I just got a new email address so as not to fill up my main one with a bunch of junk.

I mostly use three at the moment. my yahoo account I have probably been using for about 3.5 years, and primarly use it for signing up on mailing lists and email lists. I don't get any personal email for it. My hotmail one is my primary one at the moment, I use that for university correspondence and some friend correspondence, and have had that one for 4+ years. However, I am trying to slowly switch my correspondence to my gmail account, which I've only had for 9 months. I'm switching because I'm consistently getting more junk mail sent to my hotmail one. I also have a university email, which I never check and a work one, which I check everyday. The university one I've had for 1.5 years and the work one I've had for a week!

I've been using gmail now since it's inception. Around 3 years now at least. The reason I've left all other email services is because of the ease of use and multiple features of gmail. The "conversation" style of emails and gmail chat right in the window are excellent. In addition, the ability to quickly search and tag/label individual messages is very advantageous.

I have three email addresses two with yahoo and one with hotmail. I dont jump from one service provider to another. I just dont like having one email account because with spam and so on, i use one account to register to different services on the net because some of them may turn out to be spammers so i wouldn't want my main account to be polluted with spam so i use that account to register on sites that i am not sure if they aren't spammers. The others i use for business and for informal communications. I had my account for almost a year now.

I've had the same yahoo e-mail account now for probably 8 years. I get so much junk-mail though but it all goes to my spam folder so it doesn't get in the way of using my e-mail. I've thought about changing it a couple of times but I don't want to go through the hassle of giving everybody my new e-mail address, I'd rather just keep it the way it is.

I've been using the same two for about 4 years. I have one to put all of my stuff like this on there. I use it sign up for stuff. That way, when my e-mail ends up on all the junk mail lists, I don't mind it so much. I have another one for personal. I don't get any junk in that one. Even after 4 years!

I have only had my primary email address for a year or so, because it is a gmail address. It was probably actually a good deal more than a year, because it's from when GMail invites were rather rare. I absolutely love Gmail, which is why I left my old email. I do, however, check my old email daily and I have had it for almost six years. It is from when my family first signed up with MSN internet.

I currently have three email addresses: one yahoo account, one gmail account, and one work account that the school district I work for provided for me.
I used to have two yahoo accounts, but I had to let one go when I got my new gmail account.
I prefer gmail, because it has better spam filters, is easier to find particular emails when I'm searching for something, has more storage space allowed, can accept larger attachments such as when a friend emails a song or a lot of photographs, etc. Gmail just plain blows yahoo mail out of the water, in the same way that at the time I got my yahoo account it FAR outranked hotmail.
