Bigotry. People will consider you black even if you are part white. Some people won't want a mixed blood marrying into their family. Even though these ideas should have passed into oblivion somewhere between the Civil War and today, many people still harbor these racist ideas.

I imagine that that depends on where you are. I've lived in Iowa most of my life except for the past 4 years when I lived in southern Tennessee. Racism is very much alive in that part of the south. People are very verbal about it. It's a little more subtle in Iowa, but it's still here.

I agree on that one what does it matter? I read this story bout this kid whos mum was white dad was black but he was really light like white and his school wanted to clas him as mixed race and his mum was going mad cos she said no hes white? I was confused. she said calling him mixed race would confuse him because he was white. Um hello surely calling him white when he knows his dad is black is gonna confuse him more. Or hes gonna grow up thinking his dad is not his dad. Im mixed and Im light skinned but that doesnt make my dad not black or me not mixed. It gets on my nerves
