Does any one know what is going on with the PMU industry? I have heard that many US and Canadian farms have been shut down, or at least the herds have been reduced. That was a while ago. I adpoted a PMU foal in 2003. What a great experience! Any other PMU adopters out there?

Last I heard they were shutting down the farms that were found to be neglecting/abusing the horses. I think the overall number of farms has gone down. Not all farms are bad. I have heard of some good ones that do take very good care of the mares. Watching the news lately they're finding hormone replacement therapy is not as important as once thought. In the near future, I'm not so sure the demand will be there for Premarin (the hormone replacement therapy that's made from pregnant mare urine) and other hormone replacement therapys for that reason. I've never adopted a PMU foal, but everyone I've ever heard that's gotten one was happy with the foal.
