I was diagnosed with a Chronic Illness for one at this time there is no cure for. There is a treatment but it is not a guaranteed treatment. My disease does not cause death rather causes disabilty. The disabilty can change at anytime and can be temporary or permanent. The treatment is expense and some insurances do not even want to cover the medication because it is experimental. There are side effects from the medication that do not last long but they do make you ill for several hours are a given day. With the out of pocket cost, the side effects from the medication and the uncertainty of how the Disease will progress what do you think you would do stay on the medication or stop it and just simply let nature run its course. My lifestyle is good now but that can change at any given moment. Right now I want to stay on the medication and hope for the best. I do not have a really good Support Group to talk this over with, I do not have Family Support to talk to about this. My Friends well they are being kind and say to stay on the medication as they move along with there lifes. I am confused as to what is the right or wrong decision. Please Advise !

What you need to decide first is if the illness from the medication is worth the benefits of the medication. If you feel it is, please continue the medication. The goal of treating MS is to keep you are physically active as possible for as long as possible...to keep your quality of life at the highest level possible.
If you are having trouble paying for the medication and you live in the U.S., please think of contacting the PPA (Partnership for Prescription Assistance). You may have seen their commercial on TV; they have a bus touring the U.S. and Montel Williams is their spokesperson. Montel Williams, a famous daytime talk show host, was diagnosed with MS a few years ago. He is now a big spokesman and donator of money in the search for a cure. He also feels that people with MS and lacking the ability to pay for their meds should not have to suffer without them. This PPA, will help those that need meds and don't have the money to pay for them. They can be reached via:
phone: toll-free, 1-888-4PPANOW
website: http://www.pparx.org
If you ever just want a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen or someone to vent to, I am around. Feel free to add me as a friend so we can connect.
I'm an R.N.

For support groups you may try calling the national Multiple Sclerosis society @ 1-800-344-4867
They can give you some information on groups in your area.
My grandmother lived with tis disease for nearly 25 years and I've seen how bad it can get.
Uncertain or not I would continue taking the meds.I do hope that they will find a treatment for it....because a lot of people world wide are affected by this.
I wish you the best of luck and a long and happy life!
