Scared To Go Out At Nights?

With all the violence and gangs around our streets terrorizing neighbours and making a nuisance of themselves, do you find you are a prisoner in your own home? Do you avoid at any cost to not go out at nights? Do you feel your safer staying indoors? Has today's society made you scared to go out at nights? Or do you feel safe and go out regardless

I really got into trouble from my eldest son a couple of weeks ago when I went to visit him and his wife in the city. I thought it would be really neat to convenitently walk to the conveniece store. Is that not what they are for?? So off I went.
They work downtown and so they live downtown. It was a little chilly and I cut through the alley. I thought nothing of it since I am a hick from the sticks and I go outside in the dark all the time.
When they got home, my daughter in law asked where I had gotten the salsa that I used for dinner. I told them I walked to the conveniece store and just quickly cut through the alley. I thought I was the child when my son was finished tearing a strip off me.
I will never do it again that's for sure.

I probably won't go out by myself, but I'll go out if someone was with me.

I'm not scared going out at nights - but i really don't get a lot of chance to go out coz my MOM surely is scared ! You know how folks are... * Sigh * - But i'm not really complaining - I've had my share of late nights/all night parties and i'm kinda ' over' all that stuff.

Certainly not where I live .. I would go out and about at any time of the day or night and not feel any fear at all .. but if you take me away from my 'safe' little village then I would have to say .. go out at night, on my own, with my obvious disabilities .. NO WAY !!
Away from home I would need door to door transport should I go out at night .. and my preference would be to stay indoors in the hotel/B&B etc I was staying at ..
I am not afraid of people ... but I am afraid of the media hype about single women, disabled, older folks being attacked .. because when people read such things and then see a solitary traveller it surely goes through their mind that they have read how easy it is for folks to get away with 'bashing' vulnerable people .. it must be true they've because they've seen it so often in newspapers and on TV ..
So in many ways the media stories may actually encourage others who wouldn't normally think of attacking anyone to 'have a go' ..

I do avoid areas, especially at night, but the criminals in this area are not going to hold me hostage, cowering in my own residence. Yes, I may be safer indoors, but why should they be the ones to dictate how I should live?
I'm not afraid of dying, let the punks do what they will to me. My body may protest a short while, but I have rights, and they won't take them away from me.
Of course when faced with a situation I will do what I can to survive, but be assured I will do everything in my power to get those perpetrators behind bars with the other violent animals.

I dont go out in nights. If is not sensible than we also cant lose our mannerism. Instead of involving in all these things I avoid to go out.

No, my city is pretty safe still. Compared to a lot of other big cities it's not bad. ALthough, I wouldn't wander the allies myself.
