how can you say forever is real?

i met someone,thought and believe that we're gonna be forever. We're best of friends and lovers until the day that we're be separated by the work. He had to go on another state and I have to stay in my state. He met someone and change our relationship, one year after I work on the same state we're together again but the problem is he can't leave his new girl and I have to stay with him. Ican't stop loving him that's why eventhough its hard for us but i still have to follow my heart. I don't know what to do i still believe in forever but i don;'t know how long....
