I was watching Dr Phil from yesterday and he was talking about bullying in schools across the country and how it's becoming like an epidemic. Have you ever BEEN a bully? Have you ever been bullied?

I, unfortunately, have been on both sides of the bullying aisle. I remember that my sister and I were once on our paper route and my neighbor and his friend followed us for the entire route yelling at me and calling me horrible names. One boy even got in my face and I was scared that he was going to hit me. Then there were other times when I was a bully and called people names and even hurt a girl once. I truly regret those times and I'm thankful that I have been forgiven for those things. I don't think that bullying is the same that it was when I was a kid though. Now, people use the internet and other means of technology to really humiliate people and destroy lives. I've heard of family's having to move out of a community so their child could get away from bullies. That's so heartbreaking.

I agree the internet has given bullies a sense of anonymity and made it easier for them to really cause permanent harm. It IS sad. Angela

Me and my brother have both been bullied in elementary school (we're 3 years apart), but once we got to highschool, my brother got a growth spur and was actually bullying some other kids. I remained the same and me and my best friend got bullied once by this group of popular girls that attended our school.

I don't think I was ever bullied in school. I got along okay with everyone. My husband says that I bully him sometimes though. I don't see it, he must be crazy. I've dealt with this with my children but it was in elementary school and we resolved it quickly. The kid that was bullying my daughter is now one of her closest friends. I think kids do it cuz they are insecure or they have something going on in their lives and they take it out on the kids at school.

I think you're right baout the insecurity factor. I found in my experiences growing up that the bullies would often become the best friends if you gave them a chance. Sounds cliche but.... :-) Angela
