Can we start to rebuild our standing in the world while Bush is in office? Or will it take a new President to be able to start this process?

As long as Bush is in office America will never rebuild it's standing in the world. I can't think of anything he could possibly do to alter people's opinion of him - when I say "people" I'm talking about outside the US of course. I'm assuming he is more popular within his own country because he was re-elected but having said that so was Blair!
I think that, at least in Europe, simply having a new President in office will go a long way toward restoring a more positive view of the US but I suspect that it will take a lot more than that in other areas of the world.

I agree that it will take a lot longer in other parts of the world. And as the recent Congressional elections showed, we're fairly sick of him now as well.

You say President Bush is barbaric and hates Muslims. What about the radical Muslims who flew planes of civilians into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and tried to fly one into another building. If you look to recient history there is the bombing of two US Embasys and the Hostial take over of a third and the holding of the employees hostage for 400+ days. Then we look at other countries and what happened there. England and the subway bombings, Spain and the Train bombing, we lookat Indonesia and the Bali Night club bombing. In the war in Iraq when a Muslim cleric and his Army gets trapped in a town they take over a Holy Mosics and use it as a staging area. The world was upset that the US might attact and damage it. There was no outcry that I heard of from the world about the Muslim Cleric using it for military purposes. It seems to me that it is the Muslims, the radical ones, who have the hatrid of other people. History will prove President Bush was right and took the right action.
