I am going through a phase at the moment of trying to get healthier, but one area confuses me so much...Bread....
You hear the experts say ..NO bread, then you read you should have so many servings. Even though I do prefer white bread I know that is not really good for you but I love bread but I don't really like those really black breads.... I have been buying Multigrain bread but I also see wholemeal which bread is the best to buy...I love my bread....:(

Well, I think bread is bad for you if you buy the white, sliced stuff, because it is too processed, and full of additives. However, wholemeal bread has many vitamins, and minerals in it, and is very good for you. Good luck with your healthy eating campaign.

actually some white breads are better the wheat it depends on how it was processed i think. but i don't let those NO CARD idiots tell me what i can't eat. i know TOO much carbs are bad because it gives you energy and if you don't use that energy it will turn to sugar then fat. i think everything in moderation CAN be good for you...even sweets. all you have to do is balance your food and work out regularly.

Bread contains mainly carbohydrates and is fermented by using yeast. Brown bread is good for health; which is well known to all.

wheat bread is the besy as per the nutritional experts. Too much bread add s to the weight and is also not healthy. As the age advance we need to change the habits to remain healthy. Whole bread or wheat bread in limited quantities may be good. You may go for Fruit Juices and cereals instead if you are on a wait loss diet.

bread is good, can't deny that, but i suggest eating wholemeal bread, but not to much,i mean a slice or two per meal is enough to satisfy you!and if you are on a diet, try to keep away from bread, and if you really want to eat some...well eat dry bread,or toasted one

Breads are good to eat but to a limited extent. I don't think one should eat a lot of it. Not sure but breads are harmful to our intestines. I too prefer white bread myself but I think Brown bread & multigrain are more healthier. These are not as much tastier than white bread is. It's up to what one prefers.

I find this quite confusing also lilaclady and at one stage did not have it as much, but then read in a "diet" that I was "trying" to follow that so many servings a day included bread. I had been having multi-grain for quite awhile but have now changed to sourdough and find I am not getting as "bloated" and it is a yummy bread!

You now have choices as to what kind of bread you can eat for a healthy life style and I'm not just talking about white versus white or multi grain. What is bad is not the bread but the carbohydrates that are in refined bread. Your body turns carbohydrates in sugars and then any that you don't use up as energy gets stored as fat in your body. So not only should you watch out for bread but any foods that contain alot of carbs in them. There are sugar free breads out there as well as lowcarb breads. And I can tell you from expericence that low carb breads don't taste as bad as when I first started watching my carb intake. They have come along way. Take a look at what you eat and really see how many carbs you take in in one day. A person actually only needs about 100 carbs per day. How close are you coming to that mark?

I think bread can be filling but it can also add weight on if you eat alot of it. Bread seems to expand in you stomach and it doesn't digest very quickly like alot of other foods. Wheat bread is good for health reasons. Rye bread is another good alternative bread.

i dont see anything bad in eating bread. it has more nutrition other than carbohydrates unlike rice. we often eat this & we see nothing bad at all. but anything thats over done is bad. i guess moderation is much needed.

Honey, I bet all Ya'll are skinny as a stick. Get out there in the world, and realize there are a lot of men who like their women thick, and full of transfat. I have more men chasing me than I can handle, and they don't care what kind of bread I eat! White, black, brown, they don't care, just as long as I stay as sweet as I am.
Now, you try my recipe for the perfect sandwich:
2 slices Wonder bread
1 package cream cheese
1/2 jar of strawberry jam
4 Ho Ho's
Spread cream cheese on one slice
jam on the other
Slap those Ho Ho's in the middle, and enjoy.
Now, you try that, Honey, then come back and tell Ella ya'll don't feel GOOD!!

I believe everything in moderation should not be that bad. Of course, if you are diabetic, that is a different story- you should have as little intake of starch as possible. I believe the best breads are the ones you can get from the bakery because they don't have all the prepackaged preservatives.

Now the bread from the bakery is a good hint I hadn't thought about that part of things thank you...

Wholegrain breads are good, and baked chips are okay, but with the new food pyramid that is now vertical there isn't as much bread on it because most of the time bread is just starch and carbohydrates, however a few serving of bread a day are required, because for your body to keep going it needs those carbohydrates but if you over do it, it will be bad for you

The reason white bread is not good for you is that it sticks to the lining of your large intestine and inhibits absorption of vitamins and minerals. It doesn't have fiber to help increase motility in the gut. So, it lays around and causes havoc. Wheat, rye, pumpernickel and others helps the colon by decreasing constipation by drawing water into the gut causing peristalsis.

Personally, I love bread. Put some meat in-between it, some cheese, some peanut butter, jelly, anything. But then again, I'm not really a health nut. I weigh almost exactly 120 and eat pretty much nothing but garbage. I would say have your bread, and eat it too. :P Just be prepared to work out a little extra if it really does have a slight negative impact on your health.

Bread good. Bread has been a good sorce of carbohydrates for man for a long time. New fad diets encorage people to cut this out of their diet, this inturns starves your body of the nutrients it NEEDS and causes people to lose weight. Just about a step up from taking speed to shed pounds, still no good is gained and the pounds come back because this is just a fix not a lasting solution.
If you want to eat healthy stick with whole foods, carbohydrates also increase the levels of saratonin in the brain making you a happier healthier person.
