H5N1 bird flu hits UK

Avian flu of the deadly H5N1 strain, which can be passed on to humans, has broken out on a poultry farm in Britain, causing the death of 2,600 turkeys and prompting authorities to adopt strict movement control measures to stop the spread of infection.
The department of environment, food and rural affairs (DEFRA) said as many as 159,000 other turkeys on the farm will now have to be slaughtered.
