I'm rereading it for the third time, and realizee I've forgotten most of it. And I find that the world is getting more and more like that novel daily. its scary how much the government does to keep people quiet, especially now since the terrorists attacks on USA. What do you think?

It is a great book, every time i read it, i find something new. I agree with you the United States government is now able to tap phones without permission, spy on people just like in 1984. It is also taking prisoners without the jurisdiction of any court(Guantamo Bay).....just like in 1984. Scary huh?

How is the world getting like 1984? Thats ridiculous. It isn't anything like 1984, the Patriot Act is nowhere near as bad. The government DOES NOT keep people quiet, which is obvious by the amount of protesting and Bush bashing in todays media and pop culture. So where are you getting this?

That is patently asburd, whatever you're smoking, you should cut back because the paranoia is hurting you. Passport security is OBVIOUSLY not a tool to lock people down, since Americans don't need passports for identity! Its clearly to identify terrorists who had fake passports. And You need a license to protest because if it isnt an organized protest, it can turn into a riot. They need to know when its happening, whats planned, and how many people to expect so they can provide security so things dont go wrong. They don't know everyone at a protest, that is just stupid. Name one person who was silenced for criticizing these "bills"...

Well. YOU obviously aren't educated enough to use your brain and imagination. Do you read any news not censored by the Homeland security people? Or do you just believe what is written in the front page of the NY times? Your news agencies are still sayin that the 9/11 terrorists came through Canada to get to the states, and that's why there is the need for better "security" and passports for everyone travelling. In actual fact, none of them were from Canada, and the passport thing is just another form of Id they want to impose on you and me and customsdoes a terrific job at keeping that kind of people in one place. Sure you're allowed to bash bush, but try doing the same thing about some of the bills passed and see how quickly you get shut up. And in fact, you need a licence to protest, and the forms are humonguous. you pretty well have to tell them everyone who shows up. What's free in that?

hi,sorry friend,i didn't read.but one thing i can tell you.....there are more than 3oo countries in the universe, but why it happening with US only, the govt. has to think once for unnecessary interventions in other country's internal politicas. The govt,.behaviour should not be at the cost of people's peace.living with tension, fear almost 24 hours a day is so horrible.

All governments meddle in the politics of others, not just the Americans

It's so true. I am amazed at the foresight that George Orwell had when he wrote his novel so many years ago.

I found it amazing how Orwell was able to write such a dystopian future. Personally i think america has indeed become more like oceania in orwell's 1984. All those little government secrets that dont seem to important really start to add up. Things you dont really think would matter are actually starting to seem like they do.
