Can a person decide his/her own destiny?

Most old people said that destiny decides tomorrow and i really don't understand it because i think we can decide our own destiny.For me my destiny lies only within my hands.Do you decide your own destiny or do you just wait for it?

Sir, nothing will happen if I'll just sit here and wait for my destiny to be fulfilled....I have to do something...for example..my ambition to be a professional someday...I think if I'll not strive for it, nothing will happen.

i don't think a person can decide his/her own destiny because i believe god has a path that everyone should follow. weird huh? well i just heard it from somone and now thats what i think. i use to think you make your own destiny but now i don't anymore.

I don't believe in destiny. Life is what you make it. No prophecy can decide for your life in the future. God gave us free will in order to shape our life depending upon the choices we make and the decisions we create.
