How do you deal with people smoking around your children? I live in a house but with three levels, each level is an apartment. The lady that lives above me usually does not smoke inside as when we all moved in the owners told us we could not smoke inside. I quit smoking when i got pregnent and my husband smokes outside. I have smelled smoke a few times tonight now, but she has a friend over for the first time since i moved in here like 3 years ago.. what would you do ? She's not friendly, i have only said hi to her once since we moved in.. and i'm not confrontational so i'd rather avoid speaking to her directly, should i tell the owners? or just let it slide this time and see if it happens again ? what would you do in my situation ? my daughter is 6 months old and has never been around smoke before.

I'm a non-confrontational type as well, so I guess I would say, wait and see if she ever does it again. If this is the first time in 3 years this has happened, it's probably not going to happen a lot, unless this is a friend she just met and will be having over a lot. And, if that is the case, maybe that's why she hasn't told the person not to smoke inside, maybe it's someone new to her and she's timid enough not to want to confront on a first meeting. Who knows, I'm just guessing, but after three years of non-incident, I would give her the benefit of the doubt. :)

I can feel your pain. I live in a rented HOUSE... all by itself. But the houses around us are separated by only a driveway and a small patch of grass. The woman next door used to go out back on her patio to smoke and you could smell it even when our windows were closed. It was so annoying. To help alleviate the smell seeping into your home, try putting bowls of vinegar around your room. The vinegar brings the smoke to it and takes it out of the air. It's worked very well for me. I used to use this technique when we were younger and would have "parties" with friends that smoked, as I was never a smoker. The vinegar was remarkable at keeping the smoke smell at bay. Also, you could figure out where it's coming from most, I'm going to assume through vents, and put an air purifier near the main vent.

tell the owner or talk to her nicely that u have a baby around n its not nice to smoke infront or somewhere near the baby. tell her that u r going to let the owner know abt tis if she still carry on like this. sometime we really need to be strong and go confront her or else she will never know she's wrong.
