Do you know any grease monkeys?

Is it a tricky question ? or you really don't know the meaning of grease monkey. I got a friend who is working in a workshop in a petrol station nearby. His hands and clothes always oilly and looked black in colour. Most of the times during his working hour he is lying under a car. Many call him grease monkey. Is it correct to name a person who repairs car as grease monkey?
