Hello, I was watching a tv interview this morning with one of the members of the UK Parliament justifying why the UK Government has just agreed to build 'super-casino's' in the UK.
She said that it would not encourage gambling. Do you agree?
Personally I tend to agree with another comment that was made, basically since there has been a drive to lower the numbers of people smoking, tax revenues have decreased so they need something else to replace that tax income - hence more stealth taxes and things like casinos.

Believe it or not Casino's actually scare the hell out of me, I'll either lose a fortune, or win a fortune and get mugged leaving the casino afterwards! No, I've never been to a casino and don't want to start. I have got the willpower to set myself a limit when I used to go to amusement arcades, I prefer slots anyhow, I don't like card games very much, I don't have a poker face LOL. Yes I agree it is a government ploy to raise more money and they don't care about the fallout, i.e. the addiction levels from gambling and the side affects gambling causes to families.

We dont have any casinos here so noone gets a chance to gamble. Ofcourse there are the hardcore gamblers who will get together every weekend for a game of poker. But the rest of us dont get much opportunity to gamble. If they opened up a casino people like me who dont gamble now will definitely go there and gamble probably on the weekends or on weekdays when I have nothing to do. So opening a casino will definitely encourage gambling in people like me. Personally I have nothing against gambling. It can be fun if you know when to quit and you shouldnt do it when your desperate for money. It should be just for fun.

I think everyone of us gets a kick out of free money and trying our luck, especially when the lady is on our side. With government facilitating gambling by sponsoring super casinos ,it would be more tempting for the occassional gambler to try his luck.Granted, that casinos might take away the ticket if you are an expert, but they could even buy you out as their staff for the casinos interest. The house will never let people cheat them off dough. In the long run they will get even.Considering that I am wrong, the government will still profit from the taxes whether it be from the casinos or the people. It's hard to say what a society will be without legalized gambling.Perhaps the gamblers will move towards the horse courses or other forms of international betting through internet and the Government will lose potential tax revenue. So,I think this move is well thought of.The profits are too lucrative for the government to resist. So,the government is also gambling in a way, lol.Even if it encourages a little percentage of amateurs to try out their luck,it might ultimately turn out not against the larger interest of the society.Who knows...Hope it helps more than it harms.

No matter the casino is building or not, gamblers still exist, those who want to gamble still have their ways to gamble ,e.g. online gambling ,horse gambling ..etc.. For those who do not gamble, the yare not going to gamble anyway.
When coming to these sensitive issues, some politicians always show up and say something like casino will encourage gambling. They are just goody -goody who just want to try to win the vote from the public.

nope i disagree (if i understand what you are trying to say that is) i think that building these massive casinoes is basically encouraging gambeling. I mean that casinos are there at the end of the day to turn a profit not to make it a social place. In doing so they will go to great length to attract people in. By attracting people in they are therefore encouraging people to gambel. I dont feel gambeling is a bad thing in moderation but many people dont know where to stop and this thus creates a proble. Yes, the uk government may be doing this for a little extra incoming but i find it hard to believe that, that would be their only purpose. Casinos are coming up everywhere in the world and by not allowing them it would be unfair and well people may begin to complain. It is hard for a government like the UK to say no to establishments such as Casinos if they are already world wide. If they did this would result is a form of dictatorship/censorship (not sure the actual word i am looking for). Anyways i think you guys understand my point of view by now, disagree or agree but i am interested what others feel about this subject.
cheers
