I love protein powder for shakes. I don't know about you but there are time I just don't want to make a meal. You are supposed to have something like a gram of protein per lb of bodyweight that is not a fact just a guesstimate. But you pop some juice, ice, and some fruit in a blender with 2 scoops of powder and seconds later you have the protein content of meat. Then you don't want to snack and you feel full. Protein builds muscle faster with exercise. It feeds what is lost after working out. I drink one every morining. Need a coffee boost get some instant coffee, chocolate protein powder, you have yourself a frozen coffee.

anything in excess, natural or artificial have side effects. all artificial supplements including medicine, vitamins, food have side effects. you have really to balance your life style and activity to minimize this side effects. an example is water, we need it, its natural but drink too much too fast you'll drown. same with protein supplements. It can damage your liver if you take too much. I too take supplements to maintain my weight every weekday. On weekends I just eat naturally and every after a month I give a week rest of protein intake. Their is no proven calculation of this. but inside me I feel somthing weird when I take lots of protein drinks. and for me this formula works

Protein "supplements" are not that, they are neccessities! As a har dworking bodybuilder/weightlifter, you need at least 1 gram of protein per pound of lean body weight, that is your weight minus the fat. While it may not be easy to calculate, you can just use 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight, your body will dispos eof any excess protein it cannot use. If there is any "supplement" any bodybuilder uses, it should be some form of protein powder. I don't know about anyyone else, but I have a hard time eatin a crapload of meat everyday.
