What is anxiety ? Why does it attack?

Hi, I want to know more about anxiety. Because I am getting nervous when I have to give speech to big number of audience. Sometimes my heartbeat rise while talking in small groups also. Sometimes I am getting nervous in vehicle riding also. Somebody told it is because of anxiety. If somebody know the tecniques to remove that please share with me. Thank You
