I would really appreciate it if anyone has any advice for me! Has anyone on Mylot travelled to Algeria, or have any knowledge about Algeria? Do you know if it would be reasonably safe for a non-muslim (quite fair skinned) woman to travel to Algeria with her Algerian spouse? I have looked at various embassy travel advice websites (Irish, British and Australian), but am unsure how to interpret the safety / danger levels! Does anyone have any info? Many thanks!

seems you have to make some study on the policy, regulations, religion and security situations of your destination. its also possibly to consult the your embasy or representives in the region, or get advices from you local travel agents. good luck and have a wonderful travelling.

Thanks very much moreinfo! Yes we'd actually put off our trip for a few months, which I'm glad about now after seeing on the news the other day about the bombs there this week!

Hmmm...good question. I would try doing a search on the net for some basic info. I found a website called www.africa.com but I see what you mean about limited info. Another good resource is the Lonely Planet series (books and video). The website is www.lonelyplanet.com... Good luck...I have always wanted to go to Africa!

I wonder if you did travel to Algeria? I know at the current time it is not safe to travel there. It is possible to visit Morocco and Egypt but not Algeria or Libya. So you have an Algerian spouse. I saw a documentary about a lady that traveled to Pakistan. She felt so unsafe there that she spent most of her time in the hotel room.
