Do you think that there are actually foods that have negative calories?

Someone told me today that they are starting a new diet, they are going to eat more foods with negative calories. Meaning foods that take more energy to consume then they have in them. So what I am wondering is if anyone has tried this or researched it. The foods are healthy so it would be good to eat them anyway.

I found a list of other foods, I'm not going to list them all since I can't copy and past and it's a good sized list!
lettuce, cucumbers, celery, broccli, papayas, carrots, mangos, and raspberries are a few.

Wow, that's awesome! Maybe that will inspire me to skip my daily afternoon coffee. :-) I don't do sodas, but since moving to Seattle, I've totally caught the coffee bug.

My mother is a dietitian, and I've had so many calorie discussions with her that I can definitely contribute to this post! The only food that has negative calories is celery. However, I believe that water must count that way too b/c it's free of calories, and yet your body must burn some as it digests it.
Someone commented that apples are calorie free, and unfortunately this is not true. They have lots of sugar in them which equals calories. Too bad as that's my favorite fruit!
If you want to loose weight, this diet won't work alone. The calories that you burn per celery stick or glass of water are too minimal to make any difference. However, if you substitute some of your current foods and drinks with these, then you will notice a difference over time. For example, if you ate celery instead of a candy bar (and who wouldn't as it tastes just as good--bleck) and had water as opposed to your daily soda, then you would consume less calories per day.

I read all about that a few years ago. I believe it does work from what others have shared with me. The hard part is that negative calorie foods are hard to eat all the time. You have to be a special person to be a success at it.

That is what I have heard too. but I'm sure if you were not eating those foods at all and started replacing junk food with them it would still work okay.

I'd love to start a new diet too, but I have to eat what my mom makes and we have 2 teenage boys and a very picky teenage girl in the house, so dieting doesn't work well.

I love lettuce, but I have celery! I just have to stop adding so much stuff to my salads. I love toppings! from one artical I read though it said that these food will only have an impact on weightloss if you use them to replace junk food and exersise.

Is it same to eat a lot of foods with negative calories? I talked with a personal trainer last night and she told me high fiber food take more calories to burn. Are you getting good vaitamins from them.
My challenge with weight it snacking so this is a good option for me.
