Do you think it is right to SMACK our children?

In the Uk new laws were impemented to distract parents from smacking their children. However, it is still OK to smack as long as you do not leave a mark on the child. How can one differentiate between the two? Surely one is either for smacking or against! What one person may feel is not a 'hard smack' another may believe it is. What does everyone think? Are you for or against?

I am totally for disciplining children. I do not think smacking a child is a good way of discipling them. I do believe in spanking a child on their behinds but not slapping them or punching them.
It would have to be a very rare occassion that I would actually slap a child, and there is not real way of saying that you will slap a child softly. What is a soft slap??? Slaps are meant to be a hard attention getter.
I know that the rule is that you can chastize a child and as long as you don't leave a mark it is not considered child abuse.
I can't say that I am for slapping children although some of them make you really want to at times, but I think different forms of discipline should be used, not just slapping.

I hear what you're saying, but do you not think that there are other ways to punish a child and still be able to get through to them? Maybe a naughty chair or a time out sitting on the stairs or even a chart where points can be added for good behaviour and taken away for bad behaviour!!!!

I think there are times where it is okay to spank your child, not smack them, and again as long as you don't leave a mark. Many children don't respond to redirecting and telling them no, but you should try that first.
