Ok i just bought groceries, and have two teenage boys, how come they have to eat everything within the first hour of buying? Then throughout the week, all i hear is "theres nothing to eat" , well if they had not eaten everything in the first few minutes of them being in the house then yes there would be something to eat. Do you have this problem at your house?

We did have this problem...but then the piggy decided to get a job. ha ha
He works are McDonald's. So, when he comes home, he has already eaten his fill.
But on his days off, watch out!!! Because he is trying to make up for what he didn't eat the day before! ha ha
And if we are full, he becomes our garbage disposal.
I can't see how he can eat so much! But, he packs it away somewhere!

Yes, I do. I have 2 teenage boys, and a husband. They seem to show up the minute I bring groceries home, and if they aren't home, as soon as they get there. They start digging through the cupboards like they haven't eaten in days. Then the fridge. In a couple of days, "When are you going to the store, there is nothing here to eat." My husband is just as bad as the boys. They just have to be "hungry" until next week. It is crazy.

i think they think that stuff will magically replace itself if they stare long enough.

I know what you mean. I have a 4, 10, and 13 and it's the same thing with them. Once i buy grocery they begin eating everything. I keep telling them to save for tomorrow but that is a waste of time. I don't know what the problem is but a week later they say there's nothing to eat. I know exactly what your going through.

Yep then they just stand there as if there is something going to just appear and restock itself.

Hide some of it in a closet or locked cabinet, then dole it out on a daily basis.
This is really the only way to deal with the problem.
I have a freezer with a lock on it as well. This prevents the disappearance of ice crea, shrimp and other delicacies.
BTW Your problem is not an uncommon one.

Groceries are always gone at my house too. I am a person who shops once a month on a Saturday. I spend one entire weekend cooking several meals ahead of time for during the weeks. It is a timesaver for me to do it this way. I have three active teens in the house and a husband who never grew up... I have learned to hide food and to dole several of the snack items out during the week. But it seems like on the weekends they call their friends to come feast at our house. There is always a shortage of something. Teens have a big appetite and these are the growing years, just wish my income would grow with it.

Oh yeah, no teens for me yet- just 4 hungry munchkins! My 4yo son and 7 yo daughter are constantly hungry. The day after I do my shopping, my cupboards look like a pack of pirrahna (sp?) hit them! I'm not looking forward to my grocery bill in the coming years.

At the moment, thank God I do not. However, I do have two boys that will eventually become teenagers and I am in no way looking forward to it!! I understand that they are growing, but it seems like every 2 hours they are hungry. The sad thing is that my oldest is still really skinny, compared to what I think he should look like.

This is what happens to most parents even if there is something in the house they still say theres nothing to eat. I say if you eat it all up then you don't need it later.

Oh definitely! I have 3 teens, 1 boy and 2 girls. It is rare that after purchasing $200 in groceries and putting them away that we have anything "to eat" after the first, sometims 2nd day after buying groceries. Usually all I have left are the items I purchased for dinners, thank GOD! lol

OH yeah we have this problem as well. We have a teenage girl and one male who eats like a teenage boy. They go through a lot of food and yeah within a short time they complain there is nothing to eat. I've gotten to where I put some things way in the back of cupboards so that they don't find them. It's the only way to keep them.

There is something about teenage boys and endless appetites for food. They can scarf down a bag of groceries in one meal! I only had one son but he had many friends, it was unbelieveable how much these guys could eat at a time. Always hungry!! I think it has to do with their metabolism or something, I really don't know. It happens to everyone I know. So don't feel alone. Maybe take them grocery shopping with you so they will know and appreciate the value of what food costs.

I don't have children, but I have friends who do- and whenever I visit them and get to see their kids eat, it's like watching one of those Nature programs, you know, where the whole pride of lions pounce on the kill and proceed to eat everything in reach while snapping at each other! LOL!
The can be hellish on the budget, and I've found some ways for families to cope with the costs. I'll gladly send you the link to a website that allows people to purchase items from food to clothing at wholesale prices, just like the dollar stores...
They've got everything from school supplies, snacks and and winter clothing. The owner is reputable and he even offers free shipping on purchases of certain amounts... registration is absolutely free, (You will need to do this to see the prices of certain items) and you will not get any spam...
As I am an affiliate with this program, I will not post the link here, I'll be happy to PM you with it if you would like to check it out for yourself...
I've sent this link to another MyLot member who has the incredible task of feeding a family of seven kids and she was very happy to see that there was a better way...
I hope that you will find it useful...
May Joy, Abundance and Peace come to you and yours! :)
Blessed Be!

With teenage kids even if you buy the entire supermarket stock you would still find that there is a scarcity of food. They just gobble it up like its the last meal they are going to get. Anyway it is all part of growing up and wait till they hit they hit their twenties their appetites should be even more then

so nice to find out that it is not just my house :) My children are only 7 & 9 but they do the same thing to me. I don't have much money to spend so I try to budget everything when I go grocery shopping and my biggest thing is that both of my children really like to stay at school for lunch so alot of what I buy is snack-type stuff meant for their school lunches. All I hear is "can I have a snack? can I have a snack?" I've tried to explain to them that those are for their school lunches but it's like talking to a wall.. lol.. I tried to teach them a lesson once and let them eat the snacks which meant they have to come home for lunch. They really don't like to.. I thought it would show them. But they still do it to me everytime I come home from the grocery store. They hover while I unload everything and want want want

I have a twelve year old daughter who does the same thing. I bought her four different kinds of snacks to take to school this week and all four of them were gone by Tuesday! It drives me crazy. My husband isn't much better.

Sounds like my other half where the biscuits are concerned lol Can buy a few packs of chocolate biscuits one day! And as soon as he discovers them! A weeks load of biscuits have been eaten within 5 to 10 minutes! Yet I dont know where he puts them all lol
