I've had a sore throat for 3 weeks and my doctor tells me to take advil?

My sore throat hasnt evolved into any other symptoms of a cold... i go to the walk in clinic and get a swab taken.. other than that, he just tells me to take advil and wait it out.
I dont agree with him.
Has anyone else had a sore throat for a long period of time, and how did you cure it?

Wow, you poor thing, I would get a second opinion. Have they checked you for strep throat? tonsilitis?
You could have either one and might need an antibiotic. I use a gargle with warm salty water, and swish around and then spit out,and it eases some of the pain, Use some throat drops and sprays to help with the pain! And please get a second opinion, 3 weeks is a long time! Hope you feel better soon!

He did check for strep throat and tonsilitis and he said I didn't have either. He also told me to gargle with the salty water like you said, and I have been doing that. I must have gone through atleast 12 packs of halls though haha, but im actually feeling a lot better, yay!

My primary doctor gave me this for a sore throat but I used it for months when I had canker
