I have a 13 girl, 11 girl and 11 boy. We only have the girls on the weekends. Here lately they come over and just continually eat. I cook supper every night, I make them eat breakfast and even lunch, they get snacks in between. They are going threw a loaf in a half of bread from Friday night till Sunday night. Is this Normal? The boy he doesn't eat as much as they do at all. Are there bodies lacking something or is it just a growth spurt (I didnt think girls had them like the boys do) or could it be something else. Can Anyone who has girls or knows about nutrition or has been threw this or has experience with this give me some suggestions.

I have son and have a similar situation. Just after dinner or lunch he wants to eat the snakcs. He has put on lot ofweight. Then I raising the topic with doctors. They told me to take out certain tests on him. No use. Many other elders suggested that children during the age of 11 to 13 years eat due to growth spurt and as far as possible make them drink some water before dinner and lunch.

I think that girls eat more around these ages because they are going to get their periods and there body is craving more food. Usually boys eating habits pick up when they hit 12 and 13. At least my nephews did. You do need to make sure that ther are healthy snacks for them. My daughter eats like a horse a few days before she gets her period and I so I. At this time I like to make sure there is plenty of pudding and jello and even some of those granola bars. Kids bodies change so much during this time that their food intake may increase.

My son is doing the same thing, but he's only 4! I told my husband if he tells me that he's hungry again I'm going to scream!! He eats breakfast at 8am, then we go to my dad's to work, we get there about 9am and the first thing he does is go upstairs to see what my step mom is having for breakfast, and usually eats with her. About 10 he is ready for a snack. They have lunch at 11:30, by 1:30 he is ready for a snack, another at 3:30 and dinner at 5. He has 1-2 more snacks before bed time at 8pm. We always have fruit and veggies available for them to snack on, and we have to restock twice a week. I've never seen a kid eat so much! He's really tall and only weighs 38 pounds, so maybe it'll put some weight on him lol. I know I went through a growth spurt as a preteen so I think your daughters are pretty normal.

I watched this INSIDE EDITION and they showed this five-year old girl who could barely walk with her God-given feet, not coz of polio but coz of gluttony. She resorts to a wheel chair to move around. Obesity is becoming something of great concern amongst children and teens. Hear MARS are doing something about their chocolates. Watch those kids, they're not gonna blow up at once, it's gradual and u may not even notice. If they eat, let em play around and burn some calories.

aww yesss...the wonderful pre and teen years lol..i wil tell you one thing be glad u just have the 2 girls, because when he gets older he will eat your house down! lol! And yes..its absolutely normal all the eating they are doing..and i didnt look where you live, but when summertime hits it will just get worse, they're bodies are growing..and all tha trunign around and everything kids do..there brains and bodies need nourishment..and as they get older they will eat more..I just advise veggies,,andfruits for in between meals..as im sure u know.when the girls get older they will start to eat less because they will start to care more about thewre figure and all that jazz,,as boys..they can really eat and put it away and dont care they burn it off more i think i heard,,but dont worry..its all normal:)

I have an 11 yo boy who eats non-stop. I use to have a 14 yo girl living with me and she would go through spurts where you couldn't get enough food into her. I think it is mostly growth spurts. I know with my son, he's grown what seems to me a whole foot in the last year. Takes a lot of food to grow that fast - LOL He's almost as tall as me now.

No wonder mother of Teens, nice to meet you. I think its normal just make sure they munch on healthy snacks all the time. The boy will soon be catching up so be ready to feed the army and always keep something prepared in the frige all the time. Keepping fruits handy also is a great idea.

It sounds like the winter munchies to me, and yes, girls do have growth spurts, and suddenly instead of cute little pixies, you have elegant, womanly princesses. I would monitor what their weight is doing, if possible. You can at least judge by whether or not they are outgrowing their clothes. Make sure they get plenty of protein, and fiber--whole grain bread. Maybe they just like the taste of the food at your house. Keep us posted. I would feed them apples, if they like them, as they are very healthy and make you feel full and stay with you awhile.

I do feed them alot of fruits, they love them so I keep them at hand. The youngest one is getting chubby but I just chalked it to fixing to go threw some changes. The oldest is very slender. I will throw in some more protein and fiber to help them. I will keep you posted. And Thank You for the advice.

My daughter is 11 and we went through the same thing. She kept eating so much her stomach would hurt. I took her to the doctor to see if she had a tape worm. It just turned out being a mental issue. She was bored so she would eat. That's when I started giving her chores to do to keep her busy. We feed our children three meals a day and one snack. The doctor said at this age you need to be careful. They can put on too much weight which also puts stress on their hearts. They are not starving I promise you as long as they eat three meals a day. My doctor said that if they wanted something to snack on to buy lots of fruit or raw vegetables. My daughter of course didn't like this and stopped her bad habits of over eating. If they are really hungrey, they can eat the fruit and veggies. Bread can hurt them by putting on too much weight. You have to train them at this age. Good luck.

My twelve year old daughter is the same way. She eats non-stop and is far from overweight. I think it has a lot to do with puberty. And growth spurts play a major role as well. Girls do go through them like boys do. And if they are active children, this will be a factor as well as they are burning off their excess energy and need to replenish it.

Yep and it gets worse as they get older. My son is 19 and my youngest daughter is 17. My oldest daughter is now out of the house, so I won't include her gang in our normal meals. I can make a turkey, about 15 lbs, and I will have just enough left over for two or three sandwiches. Of course, I make the trimmings with it too. Good luck!!

It is very normal for kids to eat a lot at this age. It is all part of growing up. Wait till they the turn around 18 and 20 and then witness their humungous appetite.

When I was a kid growing up I was in a foster home on a farm and they used to have food eating contests about 4 times a year. Easter would be egg eating contest. I had to always eat one piece of toast with every egg to make it fair for the adults but they still couldn't eat as much as I could. Then there was the fall and corn on the cobb eating contest, again I would win hands down, even when they cheated and piled their cobbs infront of someone else to make their pile look bigger. I was known as the kid with the hollow leg. It seems that my son has taken over any records I could no longer maintain. :)

I have 2 teenage girls-and yes, about 1/2 after dinner, they come down for snax. As well as snax after school. As long as what they are eating is healthy, and they are not overweight, I would not worry about it too much. Their bodies are naturally trying to fulfill what they need. This is a huge time for brain growth, as well as physical growth. If they are active, the carbs in the breads are neccesary to good nutrition. In our house, we go through about 2 loaves of bread, 2 packages of english muffins and 2 bags of bagles a week. As well as a ton of fruit and pasta. Make sure they are getting protien-put peanut butter on the bread, and try to buy whole grain. It will get worse before it gets better. Good luck.

I have the same problem with my son. He is 7 and eats, eats and eats. At this age children have to eat, it's very important to eat a lot of different things, but my son si exaggerating too much, so I put him on diet. He is very angry, but I am forced to do this way for him. It doesn't matter if he complains, I am his parent, and I have to help him.
