There should be no min wage at all. We live in a free market and experts have determined that if there was no min wage the market the wage would be up to near $12 per hour... But who knows...

I can see that, but what would that do to the prices of everything?

A minimum wage must be set at the right levels. Meaning consideration will not only be given to what those people who are shouting whatever on the streets, but also on the flow of business. I am poor too and I really work for our subsistence on a daily basis. But I do not believe that giving those people the salary they are crying for will solve the problem. It is the system that we are in. Our workers must learn to budget the money that comes at hand and not the money that comes this whole year. This is what most are doing. They apply for a loan here and another one over there because the salary they will be receiving can cover the payments anyway. Now, what happens? The take home pay becomes too small to meet the family's daily requirements. With this kind of mentalilty, no matter how much salary they are given it will always be insufficient.
Another point is, if indeed, the minimum wage goes to as high as what is asked for, wouldn't inflation catch up with it and pretty soon overtake it? For my part, I'd rather that things shall be kept at present levels for as long as inflation shall not overcome us.
Look at another point. If the investors find the minimum wage too high, they'll just close shop and transfer their activities to some other country where it is more favorable to operate. I hope our workers will learn from the past experiences wherein a lot of companies closed shop and transferred elsewhere. A scenario like this is undesirable because it will spell out a much more difficult life for the populace to cope with.
