Questions about Associated Content and Helium

Hi everyone,
I joined Associated Content and Helium a week ago. I wrote 2 articles for Associated Content and so far only 1 for Helium. I know I can probably get these answers from the faq's but I want to hear from people who have been a member for awhile and have gotten paid by them. I believe they pay because I read discussions on here. This is where I found out about them. Anyway what I want to know is after I wrote my articles they said it would take 5 business days to get approved for payment. Well it's been a week and I haven't heard anything. Even if I get denied I would still like to know. How long did it take any of you when you first started?
Also how much have you made, if you don't mind me asking?
Why does it seem like Helium tells you what to write about? I wanted to write about animals but the only thing I found I could write about was the title's that were already listed. If you can write your own thing how do I do that?
Are Associated Content and Helium worth it? I don't mind waiting a little while but I figured I would have heard something by now. I love to write. Always have and would like to get paid to write articles or anything for that matter. I like it here at Mylot and will continue to stay but I want something I'm going to get paid more for.
Also anyone who knows anything about paid to blog sites:
I am already registered with blogsvertise because since my site is still new they are the only ones giving me a chance. I'm on probationary status and the pay rate is $2 a post until my blog gets older and I get more traffic. I'm fine with that but I have only gotten 2 tasks from them and haven't heard anything since. For those of you who are familiar with this site, how long does it take to get jobs from them? One more thing. :) Does anyone know of any more paid to blog sites that will accept my month old blog even under a probationary status? Something that will give me more jobs so I can make more? Thanks for reading this long discussion but I am just curious about these sites and want to hear form people who are already doing this. Thanks.:)

I write for Associated Content, because you can choose your own discussions. I have a clout of five there, and I have a number of articles published. It takes them anywhere between five and ten days to respond. I make about fifteen dollars for each piece I write for them. I think AC is worth it - friends of mine with more time on their hands make a couple of hundred there a month.
I don't bother with Helium because you can only write on subjects they're looking for, it isn't free choice like Associated content.

Thanks. Yeah AC does sound like it is worth it. I will just have to be patient I guess but it is hard, lol. I currently do have a lot of time on my hands so I could probably make some good money there. A couple hundred bucks a month definitely sounds good.
Yeah I don't like Helium too much either. I want something where I can write my own stuff like Associated Content. Thanks for responding. :)

So once you have joined AC than you can write about anything that you like no matter what it may be??? Like say if i wanted to put up a poem or what happened in my day?? Is that what they are looking for because i have visited twice so far and i can not seem to get anywhere there!

I don't think you get paid for poems or short stories. But yes you can publish them on there. When you submit anything for non payment it will get published in 3 days I think. But if you submit for payment then you have to wait much longer. I submitted 2 things and it has been over a week and I'm still waiting for payment approval and for it to be published. But misskatonic says it is worth the wait so I am going to keep trying there and see what I can get published. I'm looking for something that is going to pay me for my writing. But if you want them to publish your poems and you're not worried about getting paid then go ahead and try it because like I said it gets published faster for non payment. :)

This is being a while I am posting article in AC. This is a very good site. Till date i didn't find any problem with my account and payment. Yah sometimes it may take little bit more time to notify you the offer, but they definitely does. On my first post I got $7, which is petty good amount.
And for 7 posts so far I made $37. They proces the payment also very quickly. Generally Mon, Wed, Fri they process payment. For all my post I received payment within one or two days since I accepted the offer. The payment autometically credited to your paypal account.
I am not sure about Helium. AC doesn't have any restriction on content topics. You can submit anything, which is really a good option. Please visit my CP page if you like the contents:

That's a pretty good amount for only 7 articles. I just wish they didn't take so long. I'm so excited to see what they offer me for mine and I can't wait for them to be published. Besides Mylot and a couple other forums I belong to I think Associated Content might be what I have been looking for. That and once my blog gets better traffic I will be getting paid more for my website reviews on my blog so I think I have found my money making opportunities. Well that is besides the ones I'm already doing but they don't pay what I want. Anyway thanks for the response and good luck. I will definitely look at your articles! :)

I have just looked through your articles and they are pretty good. I have also subscribed and added to my favorites so maybe you can do the same for me once I get mine published. Keep up the good work! :)

To me, having Associated Content offering so low for their articles makes it not worth it to me. $4, $6, $12? Really, for the time it takes to write the article, it's not worth it in my opinion.
I do write online though for a place called Constant Content:
http://www.constant-content.com/?aref=2932
There, articles are sold immediately, so there is a little waiting involved, but if you are in it for the long run, it pays much better, because you set the prices of the articles you want to sell.
Most of my articles are between 400 and 1500 words and sell from around $10 to $150 which is a big difference, if AC is only giving you $6 for it.
Another great thing is you can write about any subject, and all you have to do is write. Because they find the buyers for you and then pay you. Plus the $50 limit isn't hard to reach, cause you can get that from selling just one article sometimes.
Anyway, if you don't find that it's worth your time at AC, you might want to give CC a try :) Either way, best of luck to your writing!

Yes I saw your response on one of my other discussions. I will definitely check it out. It really does sound better than AC. I will probably try both because I currently have enough time on my hands. Thanks for responding. :)

I am not in the US so for me Associated Content is not a payer. I signed up with Helium but I have not had any posts. Blogsvertise approved me after four weeks (they missed my application) but I have only had four posts from them, although I am on full rate cos my blogs are established. I'd like to find out more about other people's experience too.

I like blogsvertise but they take too long to send you jobs. I have only had 2 and none since then. I am trying to build up my traffic on my blog so when my 60 day mark comes then that will give me a better chance to get normal status. I can't wait until my 90 day mark so I can submit to others. This is something I think I could make good money off of once I get lots of traffic and subscribers. :)

Don't worry, I've been experiencing the same waiting times with AC lately as well. Sometimes the editors are flooded with entries so it takes a little bit longer for them to e-mail for a bid offer. AC is worth it if what you're writing doesn't take you hours of writing and research because the money is not very much. And also AC helps you build your writing portfolio. I don't know much about Helium.

Thanks for letting me know. I thought that maybe they weren't all everyone was saying they were and that maybe I wrote the articles for nothing. I should have known they would take awhile with all the articles they have to review. I'm going to write a few more articles and just wait for my payment then. :)
Helium isn't as good as I thought it would be. You have to write what they want and not your own stuff. I don't like that. I want to write my own stuff and make my own topics. Thanks for responding. :)

Overall you make more with Associated Content than you do with Helium. I've never heard of blogsvertise so I'm not much help there. I've made over $2,000 with Associated Content. The big thing is getting link backs to the stuff that you write. You can submit articles at www.piecelibrary.com for free and put in a link in your byline and author bio to your work. That will boost your page views and help get you off of probationary status.

I have been with AC for 6 months now and even though I have taken about a month off I am ready to get back in full swing. Sometimes it is so hard to think of things to write about when there are so many great writers on there already that have covered a lot of great topics already. I have found a few good ways to come up with ideas by reading others articles.
I have been doing great with Blogsvertise. I have made a good amount of money with them now.
Anyway if you leave your CP link here I will subscribe to it if you do the same for me. Here is my link:

Thanks for telling everyone about PieceLibrary. I had never heard of this, and it looks like it could have some potential to help us struggling writers.

Are you from the US? Because if you're not then that might be why you haven't been paid. They only pay people from the US. I have been writing for Associated Content for 5 months now. I started this discussion when I first started at Associated Content.
About your project; I don't currently write in any of those topics. Thanks for letting me know about it though and I'm sure you will be successful with it. Thanks for responding. :)

I've written some for Associated Content. Here's my page:
http://www.associatedcontent.com/user/25660/christine_zibas.html
I also write for Helium, but find that it takes forever to accumulate any money over there and they only payout once a month, not on a regular basis like Associated Content. I also write a lot for Gather.com, which you earn points that can then be traded in for gift cards and eventually cash. I have also won some nice prizes at Gather and benefited in other ways, so this is actually one of my favorite sites. With Helium, you really need to participate in their contests to accumulate money. However, it sounds like you are really into the blog scene, something I haven't tried yet. Good luck with your writing.

You can just go over to Gather.com. There's nothing to be gained by referrals there. It's hard to describe because it is more like MyLot in that you can write about whatever you want, but people write articles on whatever topics they like (as in AC). There are groups to join, centered around whatever topics people are interested in: politics, movies, books, travel, photography, health, money. The quality level of the writing is pretty high. You are not paid by article, it is a system based on posting, commenting, and reading other people's stuff... which tends to sound like MyLot, but I assure you, it's very different in quality, tone, type of folks on there, etc. They have a lot of big time sponsors (new movies coming out, Travelocity, Amtrak, Borders, Minnesota Public Radio, Random House, music companies). There are contests and other offers too. I won $50 in January for my New Year's resolution (they picked one for each day in January) and won $500 in gift cards for Borders for writing a comment on a First Chapters contest they held. The winner of the First Chapters contest got $10,000 and a publishing contract for a book. They have a contest going on right now for a trip to DC and another for a complete set of Elton John CDs and another for best photo of the day ($20 Borders). So there is always a lot going on at the site in addition to writing and posting comments and photos. I hope you will come on over there and have a look.

Here's the referral link to Gather, but if you don't want to use it, that's cool, too:

Associated Content and Helium are worth it if you are Americans. If you are from a foreign country and even from Canada, you only get paid for page views. I have only one cent among all, and I am unclear how to have someone link to my articles in Associated Content. They give you a url but are you supposed to put the name you have registered there or can you put in your real name? I do not like the idea of them telling you what to write.
I wrote an article on fan fiction, but it seems that unless you write the important articles such as business, etc. you do not get paid. If I write something about creative writing which is my passion, even if it is :"how to format your manuscript" it seems they do not pay you ==repeated for emphasis.
When I find a site where Canadians can write online and they get paid for content instead of page views --after all we do have Paypal, I will be happy.

To tell you the truth, I cannot remember what name it is you use but my link looks like this:
http://www.associatedcontent.com/cwilson26
That is the user name I use for a lot of things.
Anyway yeah they have gotten more strict with what they pay for than they did when I first signed up over a year ago. There is another site you can sign up for that pays Canadians too. I don't want to put the link here because it is not allowed but if you PM me I will send it to you. They pay a lot more than AC does but they are too strict for me. Anyway if you are interested then let me know. :)
