While marijuana is illegal in Canada, provinces like ontario and BC are not as concerned with the possesion of small amounts of weed. Depending on the officer you encounter, you may be lucky to have it only confiscated from you if caught, deaming you have a clean record, or can end up paying a fine of up to $100. If this is a repeat occurance you can be jailed, but this happens very rarely. Most times you will just get your weed confiscated and get a stern warning if you did not violate any other law to tick your officer off. Now even though you might be saying that it would suck to have your weed taken from you, it is alot better than being thrown in the slammer for up to a week, and endure a criminal record trailing you your whole life, as it would happen almost every time if you are caught with any amount in the state of NY, in America. I beleive the penalty depends mainly on where you are caught with it. I know that Cuba you can be imprisoned in a federal institution for up to 18 years for more possesion, which is crazy. Knowing the law in your area is best before doing anything illegal. I do not always agree with the law, but keeping a low profile and under the radar is best, in combination with a easy judical system will allow me to excercise my rights as a human being more freely.

In my area - Arizona - you can be jailed for up to a week but it rarely ever happens, same with the steep fine. Most all you get is a warning and a 'don't do it again' and your weed is confiscated. Unless you have a medical condition - I'm actually given weed by my doctor for nerve pain and seizures. It's not technically legal, but the law enforcement turns a blind eye to it.
