Cat Wound

Last week my cat (Male) was in a cat fight with another male. So he came into the house with a cut on his hip. The next day I take him to the vet becuase it was still bleeding some. They kept him overnight and performed a minor surgery to remove the absess that had formed on the cut. When I went to pick him up there was a hole where they had cut it out about the size of a quarter. Maybe a lil bit bigger. Well it seem weird to me that they would want me to take him home with an open wound. So I ask about it and the vet assured me it was ok. Well now a week later the scab comes off and u can see his muscle and deep inside him. So I call the vet and they say it sounds like its healing just fine that is normal. So my question is if anyone else has ever had this issue. I know humans do not walk around with open wounds due to infection getting into it. So wouldnt that be the same with a cat..??..It just seems weird to me..So any opinions are very much appreciated.

I would get that checked out with a second opinion. If you can see deep inside him and the muscle tissue something isn't right. They should at least have given you an ointment to put on it to help it heal if nothing else. Call another vet and ask them what you should do.
