The amountd of money companies lose because of employee theft is phenomanal. Why do employees do this? How can it be stopped? Personally, I think an employee might steal for several reasons. One reason might because because the employee is under a lot of financial stress. Another might be because the employee feels he/she is being paid poorly or is not appreciated. Yet another reasone could simply be greed. The affects of the theft an employee participates in is rarely taken into consideraton by the individual commiting the act. What do you think?

i used to work in retail, and saw people taking a pack of chips, pen and what not. i think people steal because either they can or they hate the employer and want to get back at them. also, some steal because they are that way, of addicted to stealing.

if someone is that unhappy with their job they should look for a new one cause stealing will just get you fired and then it will be very hard to get a new job. i dont know how it can be stopped cause you never know when a person who looks like a good person can steal.

I used to steal from my previous employers because my former bosses were jerks. And the fact that I could get away with it. I would steal the pens or extra paper clips, or whatever. I worked in the back and would be left alone for a long period of time and there were no camera's around. So, I could get away with a lot of stuff.
