Depression always ends. Not because of Prozac. Not because of psychotherapy. Not because of psychoanalysis or shock treatments. Depression always ends because it is in the very nature of depression to end. The only question is, how can we get it to end sooner, the way we want it to, instead of later, which we hate? However there are steps you can take to help, The first step to getting appropriate treatment for depression is to meet with a health professional or a mental health professional. An examination by your family doctor can be a good place to start. Certain medications as well as some medical conditions such as a viral infection can cause the same symptoms as depression, and your doctor can rule out these possibilities through examination, interview, and lab tests. Reaping the benefits of treatment begins by recognizing the signs of depression. The next step is to be evaluated by a qualified professional. Although depression can be diagnosed and treated by primary care physicians, often the physician will refer the patient to a psychiatrist, psychologist, clinical social worker, or other mental health professional. Treatment is a partnership between the patient and the health care provider. An informed consumer knows her treatment options and discusses concerns with her provider as they arise. If there are no positive results after 2 to 3 months of treatment, or if symptoms worsen, discuss another treatment approach with the provider. Getting a second opinion from another health or mental health professional may also be in order. Along with professional treatment, there are other things you can do to help yourself get better. Some people find participating in support groups very helpful. It may also help to spend some time with other people and to participate in activities that make you feel better, such as mild exercise or yoga. Just don't expect too much from yourself right away. Feeling better takes time.

Prozac, psychotherapy, and shock treatments are all black and white treatments. Now the medical profession is looking at it differently. The suggestions I have made are my opinion. I'm just a doctor of love. AS far as understanding it doctors have help many people who and the doctors never once were depressed. As far as suggestions go along with the idea of giving it time you need to also want to be cured before it can happen.
