My daughter is starting to develop early. According to her doctor, she'll probably get her period this summer. She is only 9 and is bipolar. Anytime I bring up the subject she cuts me off. She says I don't want to talk about it. The school nurse told me to leave some pamphlets for her to read. When i showed them to her, she said take those away. I want her to be informed and not scared when it happents. Please give me any advice you can!!

you have to be patient while dealing with such matters and she is still young(9) let her grow mentally first and then u can educate her with all needs. u have to be care full also if u make such things again and again they may become opposing to u. so b carefull.

Is your daughter on medication for Bipolar?
I have a daughter who is 10 and she has the same issues. I finally just made an appointment with her pediatrician (which is female) and let her explain the period situation to her. She had no choice to listen. I know, as a mother, I would want to be the one to discuss this with her...but, if she isn't on the same page with you, you really don't have a choice! You don't want her to be in the dark about it, cuz it is a scary situation, especially for a 9 or 10 year old!
Good luck!

When you went to the pediatricians to discuss her period, did you stay in the room with her? Do you think she felt more comfortable with her doctor? Did you feel like she understood what the doctor was talking about?
