Re-enlist or EAS?

My fiance is a US Marine and his EAS is coming up. He's served 2 tours to Iraq and has been through many trials in his service so far. We discussed both options, of re-enlisting or taking his End of Active Service. I told him that I'd support him no matter what. He decided to take his EAS and not re-enlist. Which is perfectly fine. For those of you who are in the military, are veterans, are married into the military, dating someone in the military, or any other form..... How did you, or your loved one, decide?
