My daughter really enjoyed the new film version of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory with Johnny Depp. She is also a huge fan of the author Roald Dahl. I admit that as much as I love Johnny Depp I too preferred the Gene Wilder version. I actually found the original far more dark than the newer one which was a bit of a letdown for me. Perhaps it's a nostalgia and age thing for me as well. Cheers!

I liked both of them. The one with Gene Wilder was charming..we'll always like dear old Gene. But the newer one was truer to the book it ws based off of, slightly darker (which appeals to me), and Johnny really played his role well. You could see him shift gears as his character would change his perspective...it was extremely intresting.

I have seen and liked both of the movies - the one with Gene Wilder is just a great classic movie that will always remind me of my childhood, while the recent movie with Johnny Depp is an interesting new look at the classic. I think Johnny Depp did a great job, but he may be just a bit too eccentric! I really liked the new Charlie, I thought he did a great job.

I saw the original movie (from 1971.) as well as this one with Johnny Depp. I dunno, I do like classic movies, but in this case Charlie and the Chocolat Factory was fr better than the old one. Not only because of Johnny... Just, entire movie made me wanna be a kid again:)
