Are you named for another member of your family, or a beloved deceased relative, or even a dear friend of the family? Do you feel that your personality is like your namesake, or are you different in every way.
Or, earlier in your life did you deliberately try to be like or not like your namesake?

I was named after my mum, who was names after my aunt, who was named after....
My mum didn't really want the tradition to carry on but my dad chose Marion.
I hated it as a kid, but hardly anyone ever call me by name so it doesn't really bother me anymore but I wouldn't call my kids it, luckily they are boys so I used my dads middle name for my first son and my favourite for my youngest.

Marion can be a boy's name too, I think John Wayne was really a Marion, or was it one of the other tough actors?
Wonder if one of your sons will have a daughter one day and carry on the tradition? Not if you can help it, I know, but things like that do occur in families, don't they?

Yes, I am a namesake. I was named after my father's mother. She is alive of course. But my son is named after the Angels and the Virgin Mary.

Do you find that you are similar in personality, or are you different in every possible way?

So you are a totally individual one off and proud of it, and that is great for you. Lots of questions still there by the look of things, but at least you are enjoying your life to the full, yes?

Well, some of the people who replied have taken qualities from the people they were named for, but your lotus flower qualities are something else. Very, very nice for you to be so floaty and feminine, yes?
Oh I was named for somebody my mother liked, it is the boys in our family who are given family names - then you end up calling one of them and having six come running lol.

I myself wasn't named for anyone... however I did name both of my sons after men I admired and respected outside the family... and each in their own way exhibits certain characteristics of these men.
As to why... Upon questioning both young men; one is 18 and the other 25; both agreed it is in a lot of ways due to the fact they are proud of the association... and have deliberately adopted those characteristics in an attempt to emulate the owner.

That is a lovely reply. You must be very pleased that you chose the men to name your sons for so very well. Proud of your sons, too, that they deliberately assimilated the very best qualities of their namesakes.

Oh dear, of all the personality traits, you have to get the temper lol! However, if used sparingly a temper can be very effective, yes?
Which sports do you play?

I was given my middle name after my grandmother.
I was really close to her growing up and kind of liked sharing her name. She was one of those grandmoms who took me on road trips, let me "help her" cook, took me to the park and always had a houseful of animals. I was proud to share something like a name with her.
Our lives ended up so different that I'm not sure how much like her I actually turned out to be, other than sharing her enjoyment of family and loving nature. But I'm still proud to share her name.

How lovely to have had a Grandmother who was so interested in your life and who gave you so many childhoods memories. Your life is probably so much different to hers due to the passage of time and all the changes that have occurred in the world during that time.
Did you pass your name on to any of your children?
