Did anyone else notice what poor shape Jet Li was in for Fearless?

Now I don't know if it was for a better character take-on role thing, because I've seen pictures of the real Huo Yuanjia and he was in peak physical shape until he died. And another thing..all the pullies and ropes and such. Is Jet Li losing his edge? Or do you think it's just the direction of martial arts film? Or is it the other way around, like with the Tony Jaa movies, no strings, with the occasional blue screen? Well?!?
