Did you change your name

Have you changed your name because you felt the new name would bring you better fortune? Did that change bring the changes you imagined? I changed my name for writing purposes and found that poems I had submitted under my birth name and which had been rejected, we accepted and published when I resubmitted with my new writing name.

I changed my name (twice) but not for any of those reasons. The first time I changed my name was to take my father's last name (I had my birthfather's last name) and the second time was to drop my middle name, take my father's name as my middle name and take my husband's last name as mine. I use a different name as my pen name, not because I think it will do better but because a lot of what I write I don't want my family to be able to easily track back to me because I know that it will cause them pain. I write a lot of true stories about the abuse that I went through as a child, including a lot of details that my mother does not know and would break her heart to know.

Thank you for that. You have had an eventful life with all those changes. You are very kind and considerate to use the different name for your writing and I hope that it does help to ease your own pain. You are very brave.

nope, i just dont beleive in any name changing, any kind of spelling change. i dont beleive at all in numerology too. i wonder when people take big decision based on some kind of numerology. i beleive your success is in your hand and totally depends on your efforts and correct timing. may be spelling change may feel looking ypur newly spelled name better, but its playing role in one's success , i cant belive!!!

Thank you for that, it is a well put argument against a name influencing luck. I have to admit to thinking there is a little sense in numerology but I would never make a decision with that as my sole consideration. However, maybe your timing is much better than mine, as you seem to have managed much better.

I always prefer to use nicknames for writing purpose, it helps me a lot to speak freely. I use a number of nicknames based on the subject of my writing. It really helps a lot to create a distinguished identity.

Yes, a lot of people find that it helps to have different names for the personalities they take on when doing different types of writing. Did any of these nicknames bring you special success?

My sister in law doesn't like Joan very much either, and it is her middle name. Joan is a traditional name which used to be very popular which is probably why they picked it for you, they thought it was a very nice name :-) I found changing my name to the Irish spelling and adding an alliterative surname increased by sales of poetry by about 800%. Perhaps I just got lucky lol.

Thanks for that. It is nice that you like your name. Thank you also for your view that changing your name does not influence your fortune, as this was the particular aspect I was interested to hear views on.
