Our 8 year old Sibe seems to eat grass more than any other dog that I have ever owned. He seems to like his green fix every morning. Is this normal? When is grazing too much? This kind of goes along with his squeaky belly. We have taken him to the vets and they just can't find anything wrong with him.

My dog eats grass when her tummy is upset. Maybe the vet is missing something? Is it possible that his food is causing his problems? What kind do you feed him?

He was getting a mixture of dry and canned dogfood. Kai and Tara had been staying with friends while I was off my feet due to surgery. While they were there, our friends were able to get them off the canned dogfood. Kai doesn't seem to graze quite as much these days.

There really is no scientific reason for dogs eating grass.
It seems some eat it because it helps them get rid of upset tummys by making them throw up.Others just eat it and nothing happens. It won't hurt your dog to eat grass....for the most part it is not even digested and gets passed right through. Our dog prefers the fresh new growth after the grass has been mowed and he will eat quite a bit of it.I just let him enjoy his "salad" since it doesn't seem to bother him.So yes it's normal and as long he doesn't get sick from it just let him be......I'm sure he has his reasons for eating it....even if we can't understand why.

Thanks for your comments. Glad to know Kai is just doing what comes natural to him. I just need to stand back the next time I take him out for his walk!

This is fine and natural. You were wise to check with the vet. As long as everything is functioning, don't worry about it.

Hi there Spiritwolf
I have always been told, when Dogs eat grass, they are trying to make themselves sick, so I don't know. My Little Fellow likes things like Cabbage, Carrots, Cucumber and others lol. So I really don't know. He does try to eat Grass occassionally. I don't think it will harm your Dog though.

When dogs eat grass it means they have an upset stomach. They eat the grass and throw up. My dog does it all the time. I always yell at him to stop.

Hi Spiritwolf, well your dog could be eating more grass due to he is getting older and as I am sure you are aware that grass is medicine to dogs, so this is great that he is eating the grass as some dogs even though the grass is their natural medicine they do not always eat it for their own sake. I do not personally believe that anything would be wrong with your dog.

It's absolutely normal for your dog to eat grass. My dog does also but he has much more fun digging his paws into dirt for some reason. I hear it feels good on their paws and hey, grass can't hurt your dog. It's all natural!
