My Boston Terrier Bucky has breathing problems and skin problems. My Boston terrier Peanut has skin problems. They always scratch and thier skin is getting patchy bald spots on it. Does anyone else have any health problems with thier Bostons?

I know this is an old discussion but I thought I would put my two sense in anyway. Wheat allergies can cause skin problems. Try cutting out wheat and switching to a grain free, high quality kibble

Hello I too have a Boston who itches a LOT. He pastes himself on my shoulder like a broach, begging to have his bum scratched. I bought a health shampoo off the internet but it really does not work. The vet thinks he has a flea allergy, but we use one spot on him. He gets really bad in the summer. I just keep bathing him. I read were Avon skin so soft is good for that but I have not tried it. I am going to try the soda bath I read about from another owner just this morning here on MyLot. As for breathing, they have such a short nasal passage it just sounds like they can't breath. But most of time it is fine. He is a bit hyper too. He had a bad allergy reaction to something and the vet said give him some benedryl. Won't do that again...Wow LOL. I am so glad to find some Boston owners, now I have people to commiserate with....LOL Teddi

Hi there, We also have a Boston who iches a lot in the summer. As it turns out he is allergic to grass! He would get very red and break out with rash and hives on his lips, legs, feet, and belly. I can't believe it. We give him childrens benedryl and he gets a bath often with a soapless oatment shampoo with lukewarm water. The calomine lotion on his belly. He loves it must be so soothing. Poor fellows don't know the grass is bad he just wants to play in it. I also have noticed his back legs are giving him grieve. Seems like a hip issue. Anyone else having these troubles? He isn't even 6 months old yet jeesh!

We're really blessed in that our Boston doesn't have any problems like that.....yet.... We do bathe her with an oatmeal shampoo that we buy at PetSmart, that may help with their skin problems? And I know that Bostons are susceptible to breathing problems, anyways. What does your vet say?

That its normal Boston problems. Breathing, skin irritations, and bad hips are common problems.

We have five Boston Terriers and only one has allergies. She is allergic to fleas. I live in the south so it is a constant battle. On flea can send her into an itching frenzy, and she'll find anything to rub on until she rubs herself bald and has an open sore.

Hi if its allergies i suggest that you try getting some Hypoallergenic dog foods instead. Mine also had some bald patches and reddish skin, i treated her with anti-fungal shampoo's but too bad the other one is pregnant. So i can't give her any medications even if its just topical. Will have to wait for her to deliver her newborns and get them weaned before treating her. But we are trying homemade remedies and herbal soaps.
