I love dried fruit. When you need a quick pick me up, grab a handful of raisins or dried cranberries. They are flavorful and loaded with nutrition. I always try to keep a variety of dried fruit in my pantry. Apricots, dates, figs, raisins, and cranberries are often used in my recipes. They have a long shelf-life so you can buy in bulk if you like.
What are your favorite uses for dried fruits and what types do you enjoy most?

Oh, I love dried fruit too. I always have it since my birds eat it too. I buy banana chips for my macaw, she loves them. Sometimes I steal a few from her supply to put in my oatmeal. I also like to put cranberries, rasins, dates, and blueberries in my oatmeal. And my bird shares my oatmeal too...lol I love prunes, I could eat them all day, they don't affect me as they do some people. I love figs, my grandmother used to have them all the time when I was a kid. I like dried apple rings, I love stuffing dates with cream cheese...yumm. One time I took dates and rasins and cooked them with some noodles for the birds...I tasted it and it was pretty good...lol
I like to add them to my salads too, cranberries, rasins, apple and blueberries.

Bleck!!! pitttttuuuuueyyyy... I will respond to this only because it's you. But don't invite me to lunch and expect me to eat this stuff. I've tried trail mix stuff with that dried stuff and it's nasty.
But I am sure that you have a wonderful recipe that will convince me otherwise. :)

I don't care for dried fruit but buy them once in awhile for my little one's as they are healthy and so when they are looking for something to munch on they can go grab the bag . I find them very expensive to buy though so don't get them very often , would prefer to buy regular fruit that everyone in the household will eat .

ALL fruits and veggies are expensive in NJ. I need to find a place where I can get dried fruits cheaply. I would keep loads around if I could get them cheap.

I always keep little baggies of dried fruit and nuts in my purse because they are the perfect snack when my blood sugar starts going down. My favorites are raisins, cranberries, blueberries, sweet cherries, turkish figs, and dates.

I enjoy dried apples, pears, and bananas. I received a food dehydrator for Christmas and have done those 3 fruits. I don't add anything to them (some people will dip them in honey first). I think they are sweet enough once you dry them since the natural flavor is enhanced when you take out the water.

I don't have the money or room for a dehydrator. Is there another way?

We dry alot of fruit for keeping it through the winter. Easily rehydrated for cobblers etc. Bananas and the others are great dried for snacks, just cannot eat alot since they expand in your stomach. We even dry tomatoes and berries we pick out on the property. Can even make jelly in the middle of the winter if need be. Dry your own it is cheaper than buying it dried.

I have never been one to buy dried fruit but I think I am going to start now. I do like raisins. I am going to try and buy some different kinds every week as my granddaughter is here alot. She would probably like the raisins or craberries like you said. Is there any others that you can eat just like that?

I don't think I've ever used dried fruits in my recipes but I love eating them. I like dried bananas and apples. I also like raisins and cranberries. I sometimes buy the trail mixes that have all those different dried fruits in them like mango and others like that and I love them.

I really love the combination of dried fruits and nuts in caramel, or ice cream, ofcourse with some good fresh fruits. I love dates preserved and use then in cakes, with nuts. Belive me, despite the high calorie scare, it tastes heavenly!

i know i love dry fruits too....but arent they loaded in oils?? or something?? i ve read it in many places that they contain a graet amount and carbs .... so i cant really have them evryday...or for that matter...too much!!!
moreover there are soo many myths (good onez!) related with dried fruits....1 for example....with cashew nuts...it says that eating cashew nuts sharpens your brain...so they suggest parents to give their kids lots of cashew nuts!!
is it true?? hav u heard of them???

Dried fruits aren't loaded with oil cause fruits aren't.
Carbs yes but they are the good kind of carbs.
Cashew nuts ... never heard they do anything but Almonds are supposed to be wonderful for your body (don't remember right now what they do)

I love dried cranberries but not those Craisins. Too much sugar added so they lose their tartness.

What I like best about dried fruit is that you can take it with you on the go. You can't do that very easily with regular fruit! I spend a lot of time out in the public in the summer, and I often need to have snacks with me because of this. So dried fruit is definitely one good option, and i'm glad that it exists! Some days it gets boring eating the same old few things that are easy to carry with one when you can't have a meal at home, and I might just have to stock up on some dried fruits for this summer! ^_^

I tend to use dried fruit for snacking on rather than baking with. I like to keep in lots of dried dates, their great to add to my packed lunch and help with my goal of reaching my 5 fruits and veg a day. As well as dates I also like dried cranberries and raisins. Dried apricots are also very good for you, eating just 3 equals 1 of your 5 a day, I don't find them very appetising though.

I really like dried fruit too. I think dried apricots are probably my favorite followed by dried cranberries. I like to use dried cranberiies in a cookie recipe that I have and in a sweetbread recipe too. In fact I'd like to get a food dehydrated so I could have more dried fruit in the house, because it always seems to be really expensive in the grocery store by me.

I love raisins. I also love cranberries and banannas. I love fresh banannas, but they just turn so quickly that I can't keep them in the house that long.
