I think I heard somewhere that they do indeed have quotas to fill.

I think it depends on the town/city and presenct. My sister dated a cop in NY and they did have quotas, but here in NC I was told they do not.

I have always wondered about that. It seems like right at the end of the month, you see more police out on the roads giving people tickets than at any other time of the month. So I think it is possible that they do have quotas they need to meet. I guess to prove they are out there doing their job.

Well here in the Philippines they do. As far as the traffic officers are concerned. I have a lot of neighbors who are traffic officers and they said that they have a monthly qouta of people to arrest. And that they also get 10% from the violation charge amount.

So do the people have a reason to get arrested or do the police look for things to arrest you for.

I believe sometime back from the news here in the Philippines, the traffic enforcers do have a quota. Ridiculous, right? Here in the Philippines, even if you are not violating any rules on the road they still flag you down. You will notice them manning the streets attentively before lunch time and in the afternoon in time for snacks! Whether it be neariing pay day or not. I'm not citing this to bad mouth my country but these are just observations. Of course, not all law enforcers are like these. That's why the government has been putting up a lot of projects to rehabilitate such morals of their employees.

I know for years they have been telling us that they don't have quotas, but there can be no other reason for the pick up in tickets written at the end of the month. I think if you ran all the statistics you would find that in all states the majority of the tickets are written at the end rather than the beginning of the month. You also need to watch for rain days, you'll find very few of them on the road the worse the weather is.

Yes, thinking about it, I feel you may be right! lol. It's a pity they don't spend so much time trying to solve serious crimes, because as far as I can see, they pull people over for next to nothing half the time. Brightest Blessings.

I think they have quotas and when they dont meet them they get out there and harrass those that aren't really doing wrong.

That has happened to me before. I know I was not speeding and I get pulled over. I have learned not to argue with them. I have took it to court and still lost and had to pay a fine.

I think you are not to far off on that one.It seems to be that way here too. It's always near the end of the month that they will have speed traps set up.Interesting question...I wonder if anybody here is a cop and would actually tell us if it's true or not.

Dont get me wrong! I have alot of respect for the Police Officer. They risk there life everyday and does not get paid enough. But If they do have quotas, It is not there fault.

Hi bicklelady.yes police officers do have a quotas..My Mom used to work for the county and was always talking to the police officers. They told her they had to give a certain amount of tickets per day, because they felt that there was enough people out there doing wrong that they should find them and give them tickets..They told her that the police force expected the officers to give so many tickets per day..So you are right about that..

I somehow think they do, literally. I don't know why, but they seem to let people go sometimes and other times they don't. Is this just because they are just in a good mood sometimes ?

I know one time I was late for work. I was speeding. I got pulled over and the cop was standing at my window. all of a sudden two police cars went speeding by with no lights on. The cop looked at me and said he could not do nothing about me when his coworkers is speeding. you could tell he was upset about the whole thing.

Officially - no. Unofficially yes. The cops are not told that they must give out a certain number of tickets each month, but they do have monthly reviews. Obviously the more tickets they have given the better their report looks. It makes them seem more active in their job, shows that they aren't just driving around wasting gas, and it helps get the city/county more money which pays their salary.
