What do you think of Vegetarians and/or the Vegetarian lifestyle?

I have been a vegetarian for the last 14+ years and I notice that some people still seem to find vegetarians something of an oddity. Some of my friends were veggie in their teens or early twenties but most of them reverted to the omnivorous lifestyle. People that I meet when I tell them I am a vegetarian sometimes stare at me in wonderment and say "but what do you EAT...?" I eat all the same things as anyone else just not the meat! So, what do you think of vegetarians...nasty or nice?

I don't really think of vegetarians as anything really. I mean, I wouldn't even know someone was a vegetarian unless they told me they were one so it doesn't effect me. The only time it would concern me is if one was coming to dinner and I had to cook. But it wouldn't be any trouble to cook something different. Plenty of quick veggie dishes out there.

good to see that you are open minded enough not to make it an issue. Seriously you wouldn't believe the amount of people who think it is somewhat odd not to eat meat! Maybe it is because I work in an office.

Hi babykay, I was vegetarian for about 12 years then I started eating fish because, as far as I can make out, oily fish are the only way to obtain the correct mix of omega 3 oils in the correct balance and communities that eat a diet rich in oily fish live longer and are healthier. Many of my friends are veggies and I think I am a little older than you. I agree there is plenty to eat even with out the meat substitutes about. Maybe eating meat has a detrimental effect on imagination? he he he I guess necessity is, at least, the maiden aunt of invention. all the best urban

I became a vegetarian when I was 12 years old, I'm 29 now. I've had people ask how I can do that and why would I do that. I became one due to the cruelty of the meat industry. There are so many options out there now for vegetarians. So, I think vegetarianism is the way to go....
