I don't think so! I think you're kind of lacking good manners when you do ask someone how much they make. It would make the person really uncomfortable (like me!) and it is very disrespectful. I have never ever asked someone! Everybody is getting paid differently because we all have different jobs anyway. Even if you have the same job, your rate maybe different from the other person. I just find it too personal so I don't even bother asking...even my boyfriend or closest friend.
So have you ever asked someone what's their pay rate?
Do you find it too personal or not?

I think it's rude and nobody's business. If they are willing to tell me without me asking, I'm listening. LOL
I do think it's rude. My Mom always taught us it was impolite and we should never ask.

i would never ask anyone that. i dont even know what my husband earns nor does he know my exact figure but we are both generous with our money and he gives me enough to run the house and i treat the kids from my wages and buy uniforms and such . i dont need to know and nor does he .

I agree with you in that in most situations it is inappropriate to ask specifics regarding someones salary. Especially when it is a colleaague even a friend. Under certain circumstances it is alright like when taking out a loan or credit card where verification of salary is necessary.

I don't think I could do that ever ask anybody how much they earn, as my parents always taught me that it was not ethical to talk about money. I never even ask how much something has cost, when one of my family buys something new. I know they would be disgusted with me if I did this. My son ofter purchases new parts for my computer and when I ask if I can pay him, he just tells me that I couldn't afford it. In other words, he just won't tell me what they cost.

I agree with you! It is a bit unethical when we asked someone regarding money or salary information.
Thanks for sharing!

well, it depends upon the approach of the person who is asking the question..if he/she is just curious enough to ask your pay rate...well, its ok..but then, if i can detect that there's malice in the tone of the voice of the person who is asking me, then, its a different story already...

I think its rude and I hate when people ask me that. My husband didn't even know how much money I made (although he knew the basic range) until we got married! I knew how much he made but thats because he had an hourly paying job and he couldn't keep his checks to himself when he was proud of how much it was!
Here at my job we can be fired for asking eachother how much we make or how much our bonuses are.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it, as long as you ask it in a casual way.

I think there is nothing wrong in posting how much money u made, after all it should be a fan site to make money and not a big income money like job and else...

Hi there ~ I think the reason why it is rude to ask how much a person's salary is because they are afraid of the next question that is: Can I borrow from you?
