Should I move?

I live in a city of 50,000, have a good job, that pays 18.00 an hour, full benefits, medical, vacation. But I am tired of the city and want to move up north to a smaller city, but would have to give this all up, and maybe get a job that pays 8.0 an hour with the possiabilities of no benefits. I am a single dad of a 8-year old son, and I want to raise him out of the city. I just don't know what to do. Stay here or move to a smaller town?

To raise a kid you need money so as and when you get a job in smaller town then only you should move, that is how I feel.

Maybe move into a suburb of the city you are in. That way you still have the benefits but the small town feel..That is a very hard decision though. But I would be like you and want whats best for the kiddo..

i don't think so that u have to move to smaller city. better take a vacation for 15 to 30 day and take rest . go other city or peaceful place . after spending these day u can better take a good decision .

Weigh out your options and think about the advantages and disadvantages. If I were you I'd still stay out of necessity. There's no assurance that I might even find a job on the next city I'm moving to and I'm also more unsure that I can support my family with just an $8 an hour wage. In my youth I worked for $7.50 per hour and I stay in an apartment. I'm telling you right not it's hell!!! That $7.50 could barely support one person what more if you have a kid!? You have no medical benefits. What school will your child go to? Where will you stay? Do you think it's safe there just because it's a small city?

Thanks for the reply. I am so not sure about this move, I just know that I am sick of gangs and all the big city crap that comes with it. Make more money spend more money.

while i love the country and grew up in a small town, i now live in a large city and really like it. i find that everything is much more convenient than having to drive for a long time just to grocery shopping! (i guess by now you have made a decision!! lol!!)

That is a really, really tough call. I did something nearly idenntical to what you are describing, but it involved moving even further, to another country. It was really important to me to let my kids grow up somewhere where they could still be kids, and be as safe as you can be anywhere. We gave up a lot materially, but the kids are thriving and are having amazing childhoods. For us, I think it was worth it. There will always be certain things that are a downside, but on the whole, my kids are happy so I am happy.

Only you can make that call......you have to weight the good with the bad....Do you have family in the small town and what does your son want you to do? You need to talk it over with him.....Does he want to move.....Sometimes kids don't like that idea and it would be ruff for the two of you

I would honestly stay where you are. Starting over in that sense is very aggravating plus you have benefits and good pay at your current job. Also a city of 50,000 isn't very much compared to where I grew up and I turned out just fine.
