What is it with guys and spitting? Why do they do it? I don't get it. It's disgusting and unnecessary. I'm am SO tired of seeing guys EVERYWHERE who are just constantly spitting! I even saw girls spitting on the ground today. UGH! Someone, please clue me in. I can't understand why people spit in public. And if you give just a yes or no answer (ie: all you did was obviously just read the subject), you will get a negative rating. I want REAL answers!

Yeah, I spit on occasion. But it's mainly because I have a cold or something and have a bunch of phlegm in my throat and stuff. I dislike it when people constantly spit. It annoys the crap out of me =)

Same here....If it needs to go and i dont ahve a kleenex available etc then I'm spitting! LOL my husband finds it disgusting yet is in awe with me all at the same time LOL..constant spitting though is vile thats true...yet it reminds me of animals marking their territory..dont ask cause I still havent figured that thought out myself LOL..
I think something that is FAR MORE disgusting than spitting is snot blowers....snot blowing is when a guy plugs one nostril and blows hard out the other into the air...that makes me want to retch...

OMG! Snot blowing is absolutely disgusting, too! More so! I couldn't date anyone who did either. Randomly spat or did the disgusting snot blowing. *shudder* Makes me gag just thinking about it!

I don't spit and don't understand why anyone ever does except maybe when hospitalized for a respiratory disease.
When one coughs up phlegm from his lungs, it is just as effective to swallow it so that it enters the stomach and digestive stream. Besides being less disgusting, it doesn't encourage the spread of disease.
One of my favorite sports is baseball. However I am disgusted by the spitting. If you look down into the dugout after a game it is disgusting. Just because these guys are making hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars per year doesn't give the the justification to be slobs.
If playres were fined for everytime they spit in view of the fans and every time they use obscenties, the prices of the tickets could be reduced significantly.

Can you imagine if players were fined every time they spat? Tickets are so overpriced, too. It'd be great to see them reduced. I have a friend who's obsessed with sports and he said spitting serves some sort of medicinal purpose. I didn't ask why or how, but I've been meaning to. I just keep forgetting!

I wanted to add an extra response after something I witnessed the other day. We were driving home and passed a group of teenagers. One girl sttod out (literally - she was walking on the road instead of the pavement!) She was actually a very pretty young thing with flowing blonde hair and sparkling eyes.
THEN SHE HOCKED A HUGE LOOGIE INTO THE ROAD!!
I wasn't actually surprised, just felt a stange sense of dissapointment.

Yeah, it feels strange and dissappointing to see these beautiful women doing unethical actions in public areas.

I also think it's completely disgusting. It used to be seen as a manly thing to do (probably to do with snuff, or catarrh in cold weather) before the second world war I believe, but people stopped doing it, as it became socially unacceptable (and spreads disease too ). However, I think it came back in in the UK at least, in the 1970s and 80s with the Punk movement. As there's a bit of a revival going on (youngsters nowadays have no originality, not even in how they rebel against society), I suppose that's why it happens. I think there ought to be on-the-spot fines for spitters, and they should be made to clean up spit-ridden areas as community service. They might think twice about it then!

On-the-spot fines and community service! I think that's a BRILLIANT idea! Gee, wasn't it Sid Vicious who used to spit on fans? LOL Nasty!

I do not spit and honsetly do not know how.Just like I can not do the 'raspberry" noise that everyone seems to be able to do.I have been involved in sports for a long time but still have picked up the bad habit of spitting.
When I attempt it,it looks like I am dribbling.I guess I wasted all my time at school learning the 3 r's instead of what I need to survive;the art of spitting.

I don't know why guys spit. It's disgusting. It's unattractive. And for some reason they spit and then think we are going to want to kiss them afterwards. Gross! Thankfully my fiance thinks it's nasty too, and doesn't do it.

I agree that it's a disgusting habit. I do sometimes spit, but only if I have a cold or something and need to get rid of some yucky stuff. Even then, I'll go into a bathroom if possible.
In my area spitting in the street used to be quite acceptable in times gone-by. Because the region I live in was built around coal mining, men would come up from the pits with their throats and lungs full of coal dust. It was therefore, just a thing that all men did.
Nowadays, it's usually only teenage boys trying to look tough that I ever see spitting (Yeuch!)

See, I'd have no problem if people were going into a bathroom to spit. At least then, you can wash it down the drain. It's the public spitting that really disgusts me. I hate having to sit at a bus stop and see the ground just covered in saliva. It's disgusting!

Okay.I gone trough this so many times.Walking along a street and found out that those besides, in front or anyone (guy) especially old ones making those sound before they spit (you know). Then you wouldn't want to go near or even walk through the spot with those 'thing'.
Maybe it is just a habbit or anything. My dad didn't spit in public.Or maybe this can be put in the education matter. Those who is educated rarely spit in public.Thats my point of view.Do correct me if i am wrong.

I consider spitting as a normal thing men do. What makes it unethical is if you spit in public places. It's so gross and disgusting! Here in our country, there are a lot of people who spit in public areas, and it's seems though that they just don't mind what they are doing. Well, i guess it's a matter of educating these people. We always have to bear it in mind that when we are in public areas, we have to be kinda prim and proper in our actions and do things appropriately. :)

Well I'm a guy yet I never understood that bad habbit. I think spitting is just down right nasty. I can understand if you have problems with stuff in your chest from a bad cold, but for everyones sake please do it in the restroom (lol). It is completely disrespectful for guys or anyone for that matter to do it in a public place, people shouldn't have to see that. I think people that do this really need to go back to "manners school".

Hello spitting is a natural phenomena, but spitting in public is not good for guys and girls, there are places where one can comfortably spit, thanks for this discussion
Happy posting, cheers
