Why is religion such a touchy subject with most people? What religion are you?

Religion is an excuse in binding people of same faith together. Common doctrine, so to speak. Others are just to fanatics that they are even ready to die for it. It is a never-ending subject... and each religion is prone to criticism. Others say theirs is the true one...etc. I am a Roman Catholic. I don't claim mine to be the true religion, nor claim it to save my soul. For me, my religion is only an organization that aims to mold me to become a better person, in thought, in words, and deed.

well i have my own.. i believe in the egyptian gods and goddesses yet i am a witch.. not a wiccan nor pagan and not a bad one.. i help people.. yet i think the egyptain gods and goddesses are well almost the same as any multi god religion. the only reason why i picked them is when you die you travel and become reborn as yourself becially yet i make it up as i go to what i believe.. so it is basically myown but guidance.. good subject though

I'm a Christian [baptist] and believe in God! I have two theories on this ... but I think it depends on if you are religious or not. If you aren't the religion is a touchy subject because you don't want people to "force" their beliefs on you. Life is going ok without religion so why would you change. And if you are religious it's because you believe that their religion is correct one and therefore try to convert others. Good topic Kye - hope you get a stack of repsonses!!

I think religion is so touchy because some people believe, as part of their religion, that they have to convert others. So on the one hand, you have "Everyone is free to believe what they want" and on the other hand "My belief is that everyone should believe what I believe". It's a paradox, and thus creates conflict. It's like saying "Everyone has a right to pursue happiness", well what if my pursuing happiness causes harm to others? Then it isn't ok. Anyway. My spirituality is very complicated and doesn't have a real lable. I generally say Ecclectic Pagan with Hindu philosophy.
